Your Denver Nuggets started their five game road trip on a good note by easily beating the Milwaukee Bucks 105 - 95 with much needed bench help from one Corey Brewer.

Nice way to rebound from a disappointing home loss Nuggets!
Sometimes getting on the road is the best thing for a team after such an up and down homestand. When the Nuggets got to Milwaukee last night they were greeted by tremendously cold and snowy weather, which prevented the usual college-like atmosphere at the Bradley Center. This benefited the Nuggets greatly as the sparse crowd was never really in the game. And from the second quarter to midway through the fourth quarter the Nuggets flirted with a twenty point lead and they were never seriously challenged by Brandon Jennings and the rest of the Bucks.
Players of the game
- Corey Brewer did so much work tonight, he actually did "werk." He finished with a line of 22 points 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Coming in early because of Nuggets foul trouble (and a Rudy Fernandez injury), Brewer provided much needed energy and tenacity that sparked the Nuggets out of the defensive doldrums the Bucks put them in. Whether he is running back ahead of a break or slicing the interior of the Bucks defense (and the occasional timely three-point shot) or using quick hands to knock away a pass, Brewer did it all. Mega star tonight Mr. Corey Brewer. Big round of applause!
- Al Harrington made the most of his minutes on the floor and contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds. Once again Big Al was the largest Nugget on the court. Small ball seems to work against the Bucks for some odd reason. As long as it's kept solely to the team from Milwaukee you will hear no complaints from me. Big Al had himself a very nice game off the bench and had some very nice three point shots (Nuggets finished a respectable 12 -25 from three point land.)
- Ty Lawson and Andre Miller for their assists. Ty didn't have the greatest of offensive games, and frankly Andre Miller still looks disinterested and mopey out there. HOWEVER, both point guards had themselves a great time dishing the rock and coming back with dimes. Ty Lawson finished with 9 assists, and Dre finished with 11 handouts. Dre's passing improved dramatically tonight as opposed to his overall lackluster play the last few games. Lawson has, unfortunately, had his worst offensive games of the season over the last two contests, hopefully he snaps out of it. Otherwise 20 total assists from your point guards is outstanding!
The other players all contributed well. No one had a terrible game. Danilo Gallinari got himself into foul trouble early and sat out most of the second half. Even with his limited action he finished with 14 points 5 rebounds 3 steals and 2 assists. Considering he rarely saw the floor, that is not bad at all. Chris Andersen played more minutes tonight (22 minutes) than he has in a long time and contributed 5 points and 5 rebounds. Nene Hilario also finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds and sat out the entire fourth quarter.
The ebb and flow of the game was entirely on the Nuggets side. Milwaukee was extremely limited offensively, and even though Brandon Jennings finished with 30 points - much of that was in the second half garbage time when threes and shots were being chucked like confetti at a Rip Taylor parade. Andrew Bogut was contained and finished with only 2 points and didn't come back in the game after midway through the third quarter.
All in all, this is a win you absolutely cannot complain about in any way shape or from. Good for the Nuggets to get the taste of that lethargic Utah performance out of their mouths. On to Philadelphia tomorrow night!
Special Announcement
Your Denver Nuggets have been good enough to provide PRIMO seats for the January 27th Toronto Raptors game at Pepsi Center exclusively to Denver Stiffs!
The tickets will be behind the Nuggets bench on row three. These tickets will be given away at Stiffs Night Out on January 21st at Jakes Food and Spirits, when the Nuggets play the Knicks (game is this upcoming Saturday). This is unprecedented, and I'm sure you join Andy, Nate and myself in thanking the Nuggets for such a generous offer.
Get ready for an amazing night at Jakes for Stiffs Night Out. Remember to RSVP on our Facebook page or follow this link to Nate's post about it.

I’ll be like Rip Taylor if I can get those tickets at Stiffs Night Out! The original rainmaker!
Artimus Mangilord - January 18, 2012
What section are the seats in?
Phil H. - January 17, 2012
Not sure what section that is...but from what I understand it's directly behind the Nuggets bench
Jeffrey Morton - January 17, 2012
Some sections have club level access for rows 1-8
and it’s nice up there ya know(and helluva expensive). Thought I’d let you know if they did have club access
Phil H. - January 17, 2012
Behind Nugs bench should be one of those sections
so come and say hi to me yo

Corey Brewer = Bruce Bowen
Corey Brewer is pleasant surprise. Looks like the Nuggets style fits his game to a t. Reminds me of a quick Bruce Bowen. Layups and corner 3s. Sometimes gambles a little too much, but schwoo…
I had to listen to the radio feed and the Nuggets announcer was giddy with joy. Good start to the road trip. Tomorrow is going to be a fun game.
djyoung71 - January 17, 2012
Don't forget Harrington referred to Brewer as Pookie
I’m guessing it’s a reference to the below. perhaps because he’s so skinny?
Chris Rock as “Pookie” from New Jack City (1991)
“It KEEP CALLIN’ ME MAN!!!”
InboundingLobPass - January 17, 2012
Hah..
My wife calls Brewer the “No Shoulders” player and Rudy the “No Butt” player. He probably would prefer Pookie.

For stiffs night out. I vote for giving the tickets to whomever promises to heckle the loudest any time three or more guards are on the court. That should ensure similar generosity from the team in the future.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - January 17, 2012

Glad Fernandez is off the court
As much as I don’t like to see anybody injured, I’m not a fan of his play. Combined with Brewer looking great, I’m glad Rudy is out.
That’s dope of the Nuggets organization to be giving away great seats like that to the Stiffs.

haahaha! Poor Jeff - the smoozer!
Me, just a 50% smoozer!
Nate Timmons - January 18, 2012
they actually didn't play much small ball today
there were normally at least two bigs and EVEN some of al playing sf.
when they did go with the bird at center al at pf lineup they were beaten for rebounds and awful on rotations but bailed themselves out with some 3 balls, but it seems g.k. MAY be starting to wise up. i’m not getting my hopes up though.
Patrick KB. Nugget - January 17, 2012
Yeah
Corey Brewer was playing small forward and it wasn’t terrible.
KevinAwesome - January 18, 2012
Brewer is listed on the roster as a forward, fwiw
ParkHillNative - January 18, 2012
Even if he is a three
putting him in constitutes small ball. Look at him next to gallo sometime.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - January 18, 2012
but
he’s basically the same size as Durant, give or take 10lbs and an inch or so
JBnuggs - January 18, 2012
Durant is much bigger
his long arms help him immensely, but neither of them has the strength to take on a Melo or and LBJ at 3.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - January 18, 2012
I thought I heard
Brewer has freakishly long arms as well
JBnuggs - January 18, 2012
He does
And I agree that guarding the Melos and LeBron’s would be a problem for him. But those guys could play the 4 if they had to. Especially LeBron.
Brewer is a legit 2/3. Having seen Rudy and AAA playing the small forward slot, I will gladly take Corey there any day.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
agreed
JBnuggs - January 18, 2012
to be fair to Miller
he always seems to look disinterested, so its hard to tell when he is ever happy on the court.

re. "flirted with a 20 point lead"
I seem to recall the score being 82-61 Nugs at one point, but only for a few seconds before the Bucks got a fast break basket.
ParkHillNative - January 18, 2012
enjoyable for me
So for some reason League Pass did not offer up the Altitude broadcast tonight. I was bummed at first about having to watch the Milwaukee broadcast, but it ended up being fun. They seem a little freaked out by Birdman.
And more importantly, it was quite enjoyable for me to hear “Afflalo” and “Danilo” said in a Wisconsin accent.
ParkHillNative - January 18, 2012
They weren't bad commentators at all
They said turning the ball over to Denver was like “giving them a big, juicy…..DONUT!” I feel like he looked around the table and that was the first thing he saw.
KevinAwesome - January 18, 2012
Haha awesome
I like catching other home town broadcasters from time to time to get their take, and get to hear their quirks.
To be fair, Chris Marlowe has become a much more tolerable broadcaster, and doesn’t baffle me with moronic comments like he did 3 years ago.
Missing Lynx - January 18, 2012
I always enjoyed Marlowe's goofiness
Bill Hanzlik used to call Camby – “Marcus Cambyland.”
KevinAwesome - January 18, 2012
Good memory! That always cracked me up
Artimus Mangilord - January 18, 2012
Always like hearing different anouncers
Always. Nothing against Hastings and Marlowe. But, their chemistry just isn’t right. Hastings is too clever and subtle and Marlowe sort of a straightlaced goof.
The Milwaukee announcers were pretty good last night. Must be tough to be a Milwaukee fan. With a healthy Bogut, they were supposed to be in the playoff picture this year. Not looking good for them.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
winning team/losing team announcers
it seems like that the announcers for losing teams are generally more unbiased than the winning ones … I’m assuming because it’s hard to drum up excitement and trash talk for a bad team.
nugz4rollz - January 18, 2012
Marlowe gets the call wrong about 50% of the time
Marlowe: And Nene is called for the foul
Hastings: No, it’s traveling on the other team
Marlowe: And it’s traveling. Nuggets side out of bounds.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - January 18, 2012
LOL
These comments have me laughing today. I can totally hear this in my head.
MattressKing - January 18, 2012
I disagree
I think these guys compliment each other well. I wonder what Hastings thinks about working with Marlowe. He’s endearing. Almost like a little kid.
I like the term “straightlaced goof.” Hits the nail on the head.
And it could be worse. I’ll take these guys over any TNT/ESPN team anyday, and not just because they’re always anti-Nuggets. I’ll always tune into Altitude even for nationally broadcast games. Kind of like hanging out in a bar with people you know. I don’t mind the post-broadcast on TNT, but I don’t want to hang out with anyone who calls the games on either network for three hours. Hastings/Marlowe are goofy and have fun, just like when I watch a game with friends.
I unfortunately missed Barkley calling some game a couple weeks back (I think). He would be good in the Hastings role. Would be nice to hear what he has to say throughout a game.
MattressKing - January 18, 2012
Great
Looks like I’m disagreeing with myself. Love this interface…
MattressKing - January 18, 2012
Mind
I have nothing against Marlow and Hastings. They aren’t bad. And I especially love Hastings. He has a good sense of wry humor, it’s just often lost on Marlowe.
I just like other announcers because it gives you perspective on how the rest of the league looks at the Nuggets.
Most nationally televised games have terrible announcers who don’t know the team well. But that’s how most of the country finds out about the Nuggets and its good to understand the preconceptions. Like at the start of the season, most casual observers thought the Nuggets would be terrible given that they lost Felton, Chandler and Kenyon. But Stiffs and others who followed the team could see something special.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
"Steph Curry weighs 120lbs in a soaking wet sweatshirt"
one of the best Hastings lines ever
JBnuggs - January 18, 2012
That's what makes it perfect
The fact that Marlowe doesn’t pick up on the stuff. It’s pure gold. Hastings must just shake his head when he’s alone thinking about it. But Marlowe just seems like a younger brother who wants nothing more than to fit in, and you can’t help but kind of root for him to get the hot girl, even though you know she’ll just break his heart.
Man, I have put way too much thought into this.
MattressKing - January 18, 2012 via iPhone app
yeah, "big, juicy... DONUT!" also cracked me up
Almost Hastings-worthy, I thought
ParkHillNative - January 18, 2012
Some of the other teams' broadcasts are pretty decent
Wonder what other cities think of Marlowe and Hastings…..
They are probably in awe of Marlowe’s ability to get in a corporate plug in every sentence he utters.
margabelle - January 18, 2012
I remember really liking New Jersey's announcers
And Utah’s were pretty high on the Nuggets, which made their glee in the final part of the fourth quarter when Millsap put the game out of reach that much more harder to swallow.

And yeah, I’ve seen both those in my own copy circled in red. Serious, there is a place for grumpy old ladies with red pens in every newsroom and featured posts should get greater scrutiny.
I dunno. Good writing isn’t about perfect grammatical precision, but having an engaging, easy-to-understand voice that carries throughout the story.
Most grammarians end up as lawyers or technical writers, you know the sort who write the instructions on assembling your child’s Big Wheel on Christmas morning that make NO FUCKING SENSE?
Sorry. Rant over. I am the antithursty.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
errr.... "anti-thursty"
margabelle - January 18, 2012
There is no hard and fast rule on hyphens
And when in doubt, I prefer to omit, especially when using common prefixes like “anti”, etc.
I mean, that’s why publications have style guides, as a lot of our rules on grammar are simply conventions and are constantly evolving.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
I'll show you hard and fast, buddy!!....

I bet my buddy Patrick
$10 that the Knicks would be better than the 76ers in one of the preseason prediction threads.
It’s early in the season still, but I’m counting that $10 as gone and have really grown to enjoy the 76ers’ game. I am a fan.
Fly Agaric - January 18, 2012
odd that since Ty has struggled the past two games in scoring why Miller hasn't stepped in that department
If only to prove his point that he should be starting. At least they are getting the assists from Dre or we really should be worried. Good some of the bigs got some rest so they should be more fresh tonight.
jd80229 - January 18, 2012

Pusherman - January 18, 2012
Our Young Front Office
Really continues to show they know what they are doing. I especially like the fact that since they dumped a superstar who cared far more about his Brand then he ever would about Defense, Ujiri and Kroenke have consistently hired mid and low pay players who are Very Defense minded.
Corey Brewer is one of those guys who just helps you win, love Brew’s D…and O. I like the way Rudy was playing recently. Same deal though, Rudy wants to win and play D. Achilles is tricky, heal fast amigo. Mr. Faried is of the same mold. Our Front Office rocks.
Nuggburg - January 18, 2012 via mobile
I'm curious what other moves they are planning
It sounds like the Celtics are considering blowing it up and starting over. Anyone interested in a K.G. rental for the rest of the year?
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - January 18, 2012
No
I can’t stand his antics, but I’m sure I’d love him if he were on our team. I don’t see a place for rentals this year. We’re not close enough to make that push, and it could detract from the process of growing our young team.
Artimus Mangilord - January 18, 2012
Interesting notion
But To me Garnett is on the decline, and has knee issues. I like our Bigs. I think Moz is improving. I like KK. I like Faried. And I think Birds main problem is the same as AAA which is lockout fitness issues, so if he doesn’t get amnestied, I expect him to get stronger as the season goes on. And Nene just needs to stay healthy.
Nuggburg - January 18, 2012
I see us dealing some of our bench/starters to playoff bound teams stricken with injury
Look at how the season is going right now. Teams will get desperate and come calling. Hopefully we can leverage that into some lottery picks for next year.
I expect us to make a splash near the trade deadline.
KevinAwesome - January 18, 2012
Andre Miller
It seems as though people on this site have major problems with reading comprehension. Andre NEVER said that he thought he should start for Denver. He had nothing but praise for Ty. He also has NOT complained about his minutes. Go back and actually read the interview. You’re only seeing what you want to see.
silverraven - January 18, 2012
Probably right
I haven’t seen anything new on this topic since the initial article and it would be easy to confuse Dre’s stoicism as a bad attitude, to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Artimus Mangilord - January 18, 2012
Andre = Melo or Yoko 2.0
I don’t really believe that.
I am concerned that a losing streak combined with Ty continuing to start will lead to a malcontentpalooza though.
margabelle - January 18, 2012
I saw a player having a sharp year
Give an interview expressing his disinterest in his current role, and then have a sharp decline in his quality of play. He did have 11 assists last night, but his overall judgment, influence, and control of the game has been bad over the last week.
KevinAwesome - January 18, 2012
Could it have been a bad week that coincided with the interview?
JR15 - January 18, 2012
His play seemed to drop off AFTER the interview
although I’m not taking too much out of that interview, pretty sure everyone in the NBA want’s to start, and if you’ve been starting the majority of your career, why would you be happy being a bench player?
JBnuggs - January 18, 2012
Can any of that be attributed to Dre still getting into shape?
Artimus Mangilord - January 18, 2012
As in the preseason I think Brewer's speed helps us this year
Just hope he doesn’t get overimpressed with himself.
“They just ran right by us,” Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. “That was point No. 1 in the game plan, and obviously we failed.”
