Nuggets Half Court Game...Mayo, Ellis, Josh Smith, Beasley

Last week my buddy took me to the Golden State game and we sat in the second row below the basket. Killer seats, bad game!

The one major issue that I came out of that game with was we have NO half court game and if were not running were not wining. I think this is a big problem with Karl coached teams especially in the playoffs where every game becomes a half court game.

We do not have a player that can create his own shot. Gallo is probably the closest but he needs to learn to play with his back to the basket. With Gallo out all the guys just stood around waiting for something to happen and then when the clock would wind down we would chuck up a 3 pointer.

Is it time for the nuggets to make a move for a true scorer or a guy that can create his own shot? I think so.

A couple of moves that could help improve the nuggets:

Trade 1: with Atlanta

Mozgov + 7 million trade exception from Felton plus a 1st round pick for Josh Smith

or

Nene for Josh Smith

Trade 2: Golden State

Miller/Bird plus a pick for Monta Ellis

or

AAA + trade exception for Monta Ellis

or any other mix for Ellis.

Trade 3: Memphis

Hamilton/Bird for OJ Mayo

or

AAA for Mayo

Trade 4: Minnesota

Hamilton/Bird for Beasley

or

Some other mix for Beasley

I would like to get either Mayo, Smith, Ellis or Beasley as long as we keep TY, Gallo and Nene.

Thoughts?

no thanks on Beasley

but I would love to have any of the other 3

huge Beasley fan

but he’s pretty inefficient as is Monta Ellis. Again I’m a fan, but with those two guys you start getting back into the old Nuggets of one guy hoisting up about 25 shots a game to average 25ppg. I’m not sure that’s what we want.

OJ Mayo – his knock is that he doesn’t have the speed or height to get off his own shot against nba SGs. He has been kind of relegated to spot up shooter in some regards.

Josh Smith would be awesome. If we could roll out Smith, Brewer, and Afflalo at the same time, no one would score from the 2,3, or 4 spots on the opposing team because our defense would be awesome.

we have the pieces and trade exceptions to make a deal for one of these guys! We need to make a move.

well you're assuming all of these guys can be had

I’m certain Beasley could be had, probably Mayo and both at reasonable deals, but what about the other two? I hate the contract we gave Nene but are you going to trade a 6’9 pf for a 6’2 SG? I would probably do Nene for Josh Smith no question. That way Karl would have to play Mozgov and Koufos at center. I don’t know what happens to major minutes for Faried though

Alt has been trying to move Smith for quite some time and they wanted Nene pretty bad. There contracts are very similar.

Beasley and OJ have had trade rumors around they for the past 2 years.

Monta has been on and off the block but he does not seem like a Mark Jackson kind of player. Golden state could use a real point guard… ala Miller.

GSW have Curry

they don’t need Miller… if they’re gonna trade Ellis it will be for a star center – in my opinion. Klay Thompson if shooting 50% from 3pt line – the guy is a amazing shooter! – and will be alright at the SG spot. if they are able to trade Ellis and some other role players and draft picks for Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkogle, they will be contenders right away!

Curry is more of a shooting guard then a point guard. Him and Clay are the same player.

except Clay is (much) taller

and Curry is a (much) better ball handler

Still

neither one is a true point guard and neither is Ellis.

well...

Curry is one of the best passers in the league.

I haven't heard Smith being on the block

since he came into training camp like 20 lbs lighter. I’ve heard that he’s been the leader of that team.

I was think about a trade...

I don’t know if it would work, but what about trading Harrington, Koufos, Hamilton and Brewer for Roy Hibbert, George Hill and a 1st round pick? next season we would look like this:
Lawson/Stone, Afflalo/Hill, Gallo/Chandler, Nene/Faried, Hibbert/Mozgov.
I don’t think Indiana would take this, but with this team, Hibbert at C and some good rookies, I think we’re gonna be pretty fine!

As you note yourself

You have to consider this trade from both sides. The New World hasn’t seen a thiefing like that since the white man first showed up. Why would Indiana even consider this?

what if I add an exception and take the pick off?

and even add a pick on our side?
Koufos has some upside and can be a very good back up center, Harrington is doing great this season, Hamilton the same as Koufos but at sg/sf – I bet he’ll be a great scorer off the bench in the future – and Brewer plays as hard as anyone… adding one 1st round pick + trade ecxeption, we may got a deal…

I don't think IND trades their all-star center

and a perennial 6th man of the year candidate for a 6th man of the year candidate on the downside of his career, an unproven center and the lovable but inconsistent Corey Brewer. Legit centers are hard to come by these days, the Pacers won’t move Hibbert.

from what I understand, You cannot combine players with exceptions
yea why not get back jr instead of payin more for pIayers who are Iess effective in the haIf court.

Karl hates JR. NO way would JR come back

don't see any of these trades actually happening.
Yes

The Nene for Josh Smith is one of my favorites. I don’t see it ever happening though. The team need defense and Smith could help that. I also like Beasley but only because I loved him in college.

most likely trade is nene for smith

Atl has been looking for a center so that Al Thorton can play power forward. So maybe they make that deal to play Nene at center.

Thought you wanted to keep Nene?

Regardless, he’s not going anywhere.

Correct

But if we can get Josh Smith for Nene it’s time to say byby to Nene.

Again, Nene's not going anywhere, and maybe we should take a closer look at Smith

Josh Smith is a spectacular player, yet he can ruin a game with the best of them. To state it succinctly, he chucks, sulks and disappears, sometimes all during the same game. Our Nene certainly disappears, but he rarely detracts from the game in the ways Smith can.

Al Horford

nobody needs to be making deals for Al Thornton

my bad

Definitely Horford not Thornton!

This might be a good time to go after Ellis

Ellis benched by Jackson for Nate-Rob late

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/1164/monta-ellis

Monta Ellis had a case of the flu that went unreported by Warriors media prior to their 93-91 loss to the Blazers on Monday, but Mark Jackson decided to use it as an excuse to bench Ellis for Nate Robinson down the stretch of the game.
Ellis (3-of-9 FGs, 10 points, five assists) and Stephen Curry (3-of-10 FGs, eight points, eight assists) weren’t great last night, but they weren’t exactly chopped liver, either. As for Ellis, he was jumping around, smiling, and very energetic throughout the game and looked very unhappy on the sideline when benched. Jackson said after the game that he asked Ellis if he was feeling well early in the fourth quarter, and Ellis’ ‘yes’ answer wasn’t convincing enough. Robinson went on to blow the game with his normal assortment of bad basketball I.Q. plays and Ellis left the arena without talking to reporters. Hand down, man down
