30-plus games into the 2011-12 lockout season, it's clear that the Oklahoma City Thunder are leaps and bounds ahead of our Denver Nuggets. And with the Nuggets still beset by injuries, winning at Oklahoma City on Sunday night will be no easy feat.

Game: 32
Records:
Denver: 17-14 (9-7 on the road)
Streak: Lost 2
Oklahoma City: 23-7 (11-1 at home)
Streak: Won 1Injuries:
Denver: Timofey Mozgov (left ankle sprain) is probable. Danilo Gallinari (left ankle sprain) is out. Nene Hilario (left calf strain) is questionable.
Oklahoma City: Eric Maynor (torn ACL) is out. Thabo Sefolosha (right foot soreness) is out. Kendrick Perkins (right knee contusion) is day-to-day. Russell Westbrook (sprained right ankle) is probable.Television: ESPN and Altitude 2
Season Series: 0-0
Opposition's Take: Daily Thunder
With the Carmelo Anthony Era in Denver appearing further and further in our collective rear view mirrors (and seeing Melo's current team, the Knicks, rack up win after win without him) there's not much to miss about not having Melo around. With one exception.
Melo owned the Oklahoma City Thunder. And without him, the Thunder now own the Nuggets.
With Melo on board, the Nuggets were 8-2 against the Thunder (since the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City from Seattle in 2008). Since Melo's departure, the Nuggets are 1-6 against their neighboring state rivals, including last year's playoffs when the Thunder won in five games. Granted, the Nuggets were a few suspect calls away from making that playoff series more competitive, but even die-hard Nuggets fans must admit that the Thunder out-muscled, out-rebounded and out-energy'd the Nuggets in that series.
Entering the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, many thought that the Nuggets and Thunder were two of the few teams best positioned to fight through a brutal 66-game schedule in 120 days. The theory being that both teams had the three things a team needs to survive this season: youth, height and depth. And yet 30-plus games into this squirrely season, and with both teams beset by injuries to key players, the Thunder have been able to survive handsomely while the Nuggets are treading water.
Of course, it helps when Kevin Durant plays on your team. The reigning scoring champ has seen his points per game drop a bit, but he his averaging career highs in field goal percentage, rebounds, assists and blocks and is giving LeBron James a run for the league MVP award. Proving once again that the NBA is a star-driven league, Durant's Thunder boast the Western Conference's second-best home record and the league's second-best overall record.
In the Thunder's lone home loss, on January 3rd to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Thunder were playing the second of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights. The Blazers took advantage of this by holding Durant to just 19 points on 8-26 shooting, the Thunder overall to just 25% shooting from three-point range and a mere 93 points. Like Denver, the Thunder win games by scoring north of 100 points.
Unfortunately for the Nuggets, they won't be catching the Thunder on a back-to-back or on their third game in four days. The Thunder last played Friday night, at home, and have been in Oklahoma City since Thursday morning. In that Friday game - against the lowly Golden State Warriors - the Thunder easily took care of the Warriors despite having no Kendrick Perkins, no Thabo Sefolosha, a previously ill Durant and losing all-star guard Russell Westbrook to a sprained ankle late in the third quarter. Compare that to Denver's outing against the Warriors 11 days ago in Denver when the Nuggets allowed the Warriors to walk all over them, (even with Nene in the game for Denver) and you can't blame Nuggets fans for lacking confidence heading into Sunday night's game.
To their credit, the Nuggets finally showed some mettle in Friday's thriller at Memphis ... just two days removed from showing no mettle whatsoever at Dallas.
So which Nuggets team will show up at Oklahoma City on Sunday? The one that overcame a horrendous first half at Memphis to almost win that game? Or the one that allowed the Thunder to muscle them around in the playoffs last year?
SCOUTING THE THUNDER
Thunder Non-Stiffs
-Kevin Durant: Simply put, Durant is one of the top-three players in the NBA right now alongside LeBron James and Derrick Rose.
-James Harden: I thought the Nuggets' Al Harrington had a great shot at winning the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award ... until I looked closer at Harden's production off the bench. With numbers like Harden's 17.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.5 apg - combined with the Thunder's winning ways - Harden is likely a lock for the award.
-Serge Ibaka: Ibaka has become the NBA's blocks leader with 3.0 per game and is an exceptionally efficient offensive player, as well.
Thunder Stiffs
-Russell Westbrook: When your team is 11-1 at home and holds the NBA's second-best overall record, you aren't going to find too many Stiffs. And playing-wise, Westbrook certainly isn't one. But his incessant whining with the referees and reckless play haven't garnered him any respect from Nuggets fans.
-Kendrick Perkins: Speaking of getting no respect from Nuggets fans, Perkins almost killed one after Game 4 in Denver last year and yet somehow didn't get a suspension from the league for his post-game actions.
FINAL THOUGHT
The NBA schedule makers screwed the Nuggets (shocking) by scheduling two of the Nuggets' three games versus the Thunder in Oklahoma City, but the Nuggets must make the most of it and steal one of these two games on the road to regain some confidence on the road.

Not feeling optimistic.
Afflalo needs to show up. Al needs to show up, or his minutes need to get cut dramatically, as they were on Friday. He was great for the Nuggets for about a month, now he looks like he’s got nothing left in the tank. Those 2, along with Miller in the first half on Friday, were the 3 who were a big part of burying the Nuggets early.
It won’t matter if Faried, Brewer & Andersen all show up and bring the same effort they did in Memphis and 6 of the first 7 in the rotation play like trash.
NuggetsFan99 - February 18, 2012
Ya birds been playing well..
So let’s trade him. That ticks me off. Everone on this team has been inconsistent or hurt. But for some reason it’s bird who’s the problem. Bull, why can’t Karl rake some blame? Faired should be in the starting line up or at least the rotation when that charmin nene is “hurt” wink wink. Sorry for the rant but I just don’t get how this team is so talented and the best we can do is possible trade bird? How about putting a foot in the coach’s ass first befor you mess with the roster

May I ask why you doubt that Nene is truly injured?
Russscot - February 18, 2012
That dude needs to toughen up.
Thats all I’m going to say.
tknuckle - February 18, 2012 via mobile
If you have some proof that he is not as injured as he claims,
I would love to hear it. Do I want him to play more aggressively when he’s on the floor? Yup. But to doubt that he’s injured is just not right, imo.
Russscot - February 18, 2012
IAWTC wholeheartedly
SDcat09 - February 18, 2012
What
the hell is up with guys who don’t play basketball at a level anywhere near Division III level, let alone NBA level, claim that players are faking injuries and should “toughen up.” Especially with a player who has absolutely no history of milking injuries. Don’t make shit up and throw it at other people.
paidinfull87 - February 18, 2012
Just my opinion friend
Don’t take it to heart.
tknuckle - February 18, 2012 via mobile
Sick and tired of the Nene bashing
Its a joke. Hes one of our best players. He bangs down low with the big dogs like a big man should. Not like Harrington who thinks hes a guard. Nothing more frustrating than playing with a big man who wants to play like a guard. Nene bangs down low and plays hard.NBA players get injured sometimes. Let the guy heal. We need him. People who call Nene soft have no idea what they are talking about. Period.
gonugs - February 19, 2012
I agree with your agreement
EmersonCR - February 18, 2012
No inside info
Just saying dude has had some kind of ailment practically all season. Time to play the team needs him and no doubt he needs too be way more aggressive.
tknuckle - February 18, 2012 via mobile
So, you're saying that he's not really injured, or that he
won’t do any more damage if he plays? I don’t get that. Also, it is my opinion that it was due to him playing before his heel injury was full healed that led to the calf strain. I also don’t have any inside information to back this up.
Finally, you continue to downplay his injury in your language (hurt, ailment) as if it’s something he just has to push through. If you don’t have any inside information, then don’t speak as if you do. I’ll leave it to the Nuggets Dr’s, Trainers and, yes, Nene to decide when he can play without risk of further injury. I would rather have him miss a few games now so that we can have him fully healthy later.

look we cant know whats up with Nene but
I think there’s a better chance that Nene has played when he souldnt have than he’s not playing when he should be
And, frankly there is no great rush to get Nene in there becase a subpar Nene isnt going to help us beat our next few opponents anyway. Nene is a cog, a good cog but a cog nonetheless.
When we have Moz and Gallo back, we wont even need Nene as much but he will complete our front line and make us formidable.
Until then suck it up, thank God for the all star break because otherwise Feb is shaping up to be brutal
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
I did call out Nene in a way the other night b/c I felt that playing one night and sitting out another was bad for the team. In the comments I suggested he sit out for a month or so to heal up instead of being in and out of the lineup. Glad to see he’s taking more time off, but I’m worried he’ll be sitting a lot all season.
I can’t question his injury, like others suggest I have no clue how bad it is, but I will question why he’s allowed to be in and out of the lineup so often, seems bad for the team. I guess if you feel good one day and bad the next it’s hard to not play. Frustrating though.
Nate Timmons - February 19, 2012

might be best to keep out Nene until Gallo joins team. They’ll both be health (?) and beastin

fuck this team!
we are barely making the playoffs in the west if the season ended tomorrow we would play okc in the first round and probably lose!!! how is trading melo working for us?? oh yea still losing in the first round like always
Danteslion - February 19, 2012
This a crazy, frustrating season
but I still think losing Melo will ultimately be a blessing in disguise.
Every team needs people who can jump-start the team when it’s in a funk, and carry the scoring load when others are cold. But to win a championship, it is crucial for these stars to play team ball, focus on defense and create comraderie – more important than scoring 25+ ppg.
How do the stars stack up in this light? Durant? Yes; Rose? Yes; LBJ? Yes; Melo? No; Monta? No.
Gallo? I still say Yes. Ty? Next year. In the meantime, OKC is the better team, and IMO going all the way. It certainly would be satisfying to burn them on their court.
slader - February 19, 2012
go root for OKC then

Suck at Chess good at psychology. Just sayin’ – it aint coming from nowhere.
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
Must be a magical science.
You don’t even have to get a guy on your couch. Watch a few games and a few interviews and you have him figured out. Cool.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
Oh and if he emailed me
then we would all know the truth right
Be real, its my opinion like its your opinion that Melo is thrilled. How do you know that?
BTW “good sense” does not equal “magical science”
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
why distort what I mean/say?
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
I heard an interview with Lin where he said
Melo is a great guy. I really look up to him.
Then an interview with D’antoni where he said he first put Lin in the game at Melo’s urging.
Then you say its killing melo that the Knicks are winning without him.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
wow!
people say the “right” things during interviews. Amazing. I’m shocked. What do you expect Lin to say?
Yes, its killing Malo that the Knicks are doing great without him. Yes. A thousand times, yes.
PS: You would trust my instincts if they corroborated your opinion, right?
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
of course, by "malo" I meant "melo"
but, honestly, same thing
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
I think it's a bit of stretch to
analyze Melo (or anyone) without actually, you know, sitting down with them for what, 3 sessions at least?
SDcat09 - February 19, 2012
3 sessions arent enough, and I'm not an "analyst"
and most Melo fans would be OK if I said that Melo felt great about Lin’s success
But based on watching Melo over 7 yrs, a dozen interviews, print media, my opinion is that Melo is not team oriented and is very concerned with how he appears in the pantheon of stars.
That doesnt mean I’m an expert on Melo, or that Melo is a bad guy. Melo is not a bad guy just has poor basketball values.
Does my background entitle me to claim some specialness in this opinion? No. I’ve been wrong plenty of times. But based on my experience, education and long standing interest, my educated opinion should be considered, agree or not.
And Cat, I still appreciate Melo fans coming to his defense because THAT is a good value to demonstrate.
But I disliked his game so much while he was on Denver that I only watched Nug games in which I had interest in the other team so for me, so there is no particular reason for me to demonstrate any magnanimity towards Melo (his game, not as a person outside of court)
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
and, no one ever could have thought we'd be good
with our best/most valuable players out. And there’s really no way to have predicted that
But if you want to watch the Knicks, this is the time because Lin is ballin’ & JR contributing and Melo out
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
don't what to to expect out of this team anymore
Not sure what or who motivates this team on a regular basis. For years it has been about getting the “right” players for the money which we seems to be achieving now with more competent front office. The scary thing is even with the 15-7 start there were games left on the table that would have made the current stretch bearable, this team could have been within a game of OKC even with the 5 game losing streak. They lost some close games that didn’t have to come down to poorly drawn up AND executed close to last second heaves. Injuries happen and is it just me but teams without the depth we have seem to be weathering their injuries better than the Nuggets are. We seem to live and die with the fastbreak and 3pt’ers, but miss layups too much, can’t hit FT’s, and not many guys on this team can hit at 15ft or less jumper with any consistency. We’re at the point where the coaching of this team from the top down to the assistants needs to be scrutinized. The Nuggets need to do it Dallas style and get some old school coaches on the bench to get these players back to basics of defense, rebounding, and teach halfcourt offense principles to use more efficiently when the run and gun isn’t working.
jd80229 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
I have no clue what's going to happen tonight
but I want to see the starting five be

AAA
Ty
no more Kosta Doufas starting please
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

Will pay future dividends if and when the roster is healthy, and the coaches figure out how to manage the depth better than they were doing before the injuries.
jd80229 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
You act like KK is playing bad yet you think its important to start AAA
Why don’t you just say ‘I would rather Moz start over KK because Moz is my favorite.’
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
I'm just saying Moz is way better than K2
He can catch the ball in the lane! I would replace AAA also but Rudy is as up and down as he is
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
These are important stats that you should be familiar with

As you can see, Kufos is a more efficient player than Moz.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
whatever dude I don't have insider
I’m just saying I would prefer Moz over K2. If you remember, Moz was the one that was holding up the Melo trade
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
You don't need insider to look at that URL.
I don’t care about the Melo trade. That dude is long gone. What we have to work with now is what is more interesting; namely, Mozgov and Kufos.
I’m not emotional about who gets to play, I want the best guy out there and I think it’s Kufos.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
Well I think it's Moz that should start
I just brought up the trade because Moz was the one holding it up. That’s all. i don’t give a shit about melo
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
stats aren't everything
Moz is much better at defending the lane and altering shots. Moz really helps on the pick and roll defense much more than Koufos

that’s why I said Karl needs to be fired
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

History speaks for itself. Karl is a terrible playoff coach, and we won’t have success there with him at head coach

we will proll ymake the playoffs but will be bounced out in the first round as always

TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Uh. What?
SDcat09 - February 19, 2012
The Nuggets losing in the first round
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
That is why Karl should be gone if we get beat in the first round with a healthy roster
The U.N. Fab Five - February 19, 2012
Karl better start playing Hamilton
That is the only way the sting of JR lighting up teams in a non Nugget uniform gets mitigated.
I think AAA will be fine, but Rudy has got to go, the dude just sucks alright. He has only had one good game. At least JR had more good games than bad games.
I can’t wait for Hamilton to replace Rudy.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
As long as Karl is coach
Hamilton will never get any real run
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

Kevin L - February 19, 2012
What? Why would we get rid of AAA?
He’s been progressively better…..
SDcat09 - February 19, 2012
Really?
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I would seriously consider cutting AAA if he doesn't get his shit together
the dude is awful this season
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Guys AAA will be fine
He had 4 straight good games, and a few bad ones. He is coming around. Rudy is the one who has to go.
I also think Hamilton’s D will improve like JR’s. I like how Hamilton can block well.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Rudy’ll be gone either way.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
2 of those good games
were against the Suns and Warriors. very sub par teams
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
But we lost to one of those teams lol
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
yeah someone tried to say AAA had a nice stretch
and I put together a counter argument
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I wanna see Hamilton play too
But I think he’s still a liability on D, and that’s why he doesn’t play.
JBnuggs - February 19, 2012
Im a bit worried about this game
Denver will have to come out strong out the gate and playa flawless game to win this game…. im worried.
NastyNessy71 - February 19, 2012

JBnuggs - February 19, 2012
Nope it's Karl
This team will not be focused and get down by 15 early
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
NN, hysterical!
A “bit worried” ?
Why? Because they owned us last year? Because they’re playing .800 ball this year. because we are decimated?
Why would you be a bit worried?
sgiustra - February 19, 2012
yea basically =)
NastyNessy71 - February 19, 2012
You are right, that's the only way we could win because OKC is clicking and we need to as well to beat them.
That being said, I think Nuggets need to factor in things like can we even beat OKC without our starters and if not, why kill everyone. I think it would be kind of funny to start Faried, Bird, Jham, Stone and Miller.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
that would be unny, as funny as
a 120 – 60 loss
sgiustra - February 19, 2012

Rys - February 19, 2012
Looks like the Knicks have become my second favorite team
I went to a nerd school (MIT) and their starting backcourt has two players from nerd schools(Harvard and Stanford).
Of course they have JR Smith too.
If the Nuggets keep playing like shit I may have to jump ship. Karl makes no adjustments though he has the talent, it is just infuriating and I would rather follow a fun team than the excuses Karl brings. The main person on the Nuggets who needs to get his shit together is Karl.

Karl is 100% to blame for JR's departure
Kinda funny how we had a lead when JR was in the OKC series(game 3 and 5), but Karl decided to sit him down. That said it all.
As I said JR would have to have no brain cells to want to play for Karl again after the way Karl treated him.

Kevin L - February 19, 2012
The Nuggets should have included JR in that trade last season and taken Fields back, haha.
Crazy that JR signed there. He is fun to watch and the lack of Nuggets shooting has people dreaming for him back in Denver … more knee jerk reaction as if he was 2-10 today folks wouldn’t be so high on him. I like JR and hope he has a successful season.

agree with being confused on the JR love. the games i remember him scoring 30 were games where we won by 20+. scoring points in blowouts against bad teams doesnt really impress me all that much
Kevin #3 - February 19, 2012
the reason they were blowouts
were usually BECAUSE JR was hot

Don’t even put a picture of Al up
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

Kevin L - February 19, 2012
Yeah why would you do that
It’s not like he is the third leading scorer per game and second leading rebounder per game. Its not like he’s scored more points or grabbed as many rebounds as anyone else on the team…Oh wait.
It’s like Andrew said, if Harden wasn’t having such a huge year he’d have a real good shot at winning 6th man.
Zachm219 - February 19, 2012
I like Fields too.
I like JR but if I had to choose it would be Landry Fields all day. He is consistent and more of it good than bad.

He fits more in the Pringles system.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
To be fair, who doesn't.
I’m not talking about the beat your head against the goalpost, yeah he’s done that.
But if you want to talk about games where a guy chucks up the three ball over and over even though he really needs to stop it we could be talking about Chauncey, AAA, Allen, the list goes on.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
No turn around needed to be made
He was great last year..played team ball..played defense..never got rewarded for it..karls fault.gonna miss jr..wont miss karl

georgekarl - February 19, 2012
If I see him there ill ask him
Danteslion - February 19, 2012
Lol he will prob say
Something like I never thought JR was a bad player.
But his actions spoke louder than his words see OKC series. The writing was on the wall, I am honestly impressed JR hung around Karl for so long. That was a ton of patience on JR’s part especially the way Karl continually made him a scapegoat and threw him under the bus.

Because he has a coach that believes in him
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

he has a coach that believes in him
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

Kevin L - February 19, 2012
I'm already telling

TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
The thing is, every player has freedom under Pringles. See: Boris Diaw.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
duh that's why I said he will have more freedom
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I can see their crunch time lineup being
Chandler, STAT, Melo, JR, and Lin.
Karl would never ever play JR in crunch time unless there were injuries or Karl had a gun to his head.
So I don’t know how people think Karl isn’t the reason JR left. He wouldn’t be able to play important minutes with Karl at the helm.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Agree
Karl was the sole reason he left
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

This was the best one.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
agreed.... i was only watching to see jr... this game is exciting
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
I kinda like the knicks
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I’ve been saying this, they’re us in 2007.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
Knicks vs. Heat in conference finals
that would be riveting TV
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
knicks vs heat 2nd round is more likely
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
maybe maybe not
still will be fun to watch
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Needs some Van Gundy.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
It's official Knicks are fun to watch
And Pringles realizes JR>>Fields.
Finally a coach who knows JR is good.
Btw JR’s runout on Terry was the reason he got that go ahead bucket.
And people criticize his defense SMH.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
SMH
TakeFive - February 19, 2012
Didn’t know JR brought some fans back from China.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
jr smith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
Glad they didn't give dirk that call
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Over/Under Melo disrupts the groove.
Kevin L - February 19, 2012
I hope he doesn't
but he prolly will
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Corey Brewer @CoreyBrewer13
Great game but now it’s nap time hope everyone watches nuggets and thunder on espn tonight
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
So the Knicks win, not b/c of two stars but b/c of two castoffs... Ha.
TakeFive - February 19, 2012
Yep, I bet Knicks lose without JR.
love4nuggets - February 19, 2012
who's the other castoff?
I hope you don’t mean JR and his 6-16
Rainbow skyline - February 19, 2012
steve NOVAK
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
The dude just got off a plane from China and played without practing
cut the guy some slack
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Yeah beause his hustle and defense and passing
don’t count towards a win.
love4nuggets - February 19, 2012
Lin???
I got to give Pringles credit, he gave him a shot when other coaches didn’t. Oh btw he also played JR and recognizes true game.
If only Karl gave Faried and Hamilton a shot…o wait its Karl it won’t happen.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
technically
Faried is getting his shot. That’s only because big softy is out. I agree with you though, Karl will not give hamilton any run
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
again, jr is productive in other ways, he's a compIete pIayer.
that defense on dirk was great.
Rys - February 19, 2012
I bet the Knicks are wishing they didn't sign Davis
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I bet the Nuggets are wishing they didn't sign Afflalo
love4nuggets - February 19, 2012
I've been already saying that
big mistake by Masai
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
not re sign affIaIo, but payin him that much money when there was no competition, they couId have got him for much Iess.
and he wouId have been much easier to trade. kind of Iike what they are about to do with chandIer and ty, and maybe in a way with gaIIo, shouId have Iet gaIIo pIay out a season before payin him.
Rys - February 19, 2012
I disagree on Gallo
I think he will be a star for us, but I’m with you on the other 3
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I think Gallo's absence
is proving his worth right now
Jeffrey Morton - February 19, 2012
I think you could also say that about Melo.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
Calm down about AAA
I guarantee he will be worth his money in time.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
wel lhis time is running out with me
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Like Golden State's was running out on Lin?
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
don't even do that comparison
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I'm just saying be patient
The talent is there with AAA. He just needs to let the game come to him.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Well don't use the Lin comparison
Lin wasn’t making $43 million in Golden State. AAA needs to man up and live up to his contract
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
And he will is what I am saying
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
you can't guarantee that
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Just as you can't guarantee he won't :p
Russscot - February 19, 2012
Hey old man
I missed arguing with you
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
lol...too tired from being old to argue much.
so let me sum up. JR played engaged basketball today. When he does so, he’s solid on D, and has the ability to be electrifying on O. It is exactly what I expected of him in his first game back in the states with a new team. that does not mean it will continue (I hope it does, as he’s a joy to watch when engaged). Way too soon to judge however. AAA has not been the player we wanted/hoped when he signed the contract. But, he in the past has shown an incredible work ethic, and the ability to let the past go and concentrate on the future. Again, way too soon to judge.
Russscot - February 19, 2012
I guess nothing is guaranteed but death and taxes
But you get the sense that AAA will be more that guy who scored 20+ points for 4 games and played tenacious defense.
Vs the one who gets tired and shoots short.
It is kinda like Joakim Noah with the contract. It’s a head thing and I think that can be corrected especially with a smarter guy like AAA.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Well he better start tonight
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
AAA has always seemd like a standup guy.
He’s not all flash and ooh look at me I’m a bazillionaire now. At least he doesn’t strike me as that kind of guy. The question is, wtf is the deal. Doesn’t seem like its physical so maybe he needs a vacation or something. I don’t know what but I can’t imagine him staying this way forever.
All the other debates aside (salary etc) I think he is the kind of guy who will figure it out.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
he's not someone who can make pIays for himseIf, and this team Iacks pIaymakers.
miIIer can do some stuff in the haIf court, but a Iot of that is for the bigs who make back cuts and stuff.
Rys - February 19, 2012
My problem with AAA
is that who else were we bidding with for him?
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Like I said
All the other debates aside, AAA seems like a good guy who cares enough to figure out his problems and fix them.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
yeah just wondering if any other team had him on their radar
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
We probably will never know
But I can’t imagine other teams were not interested.
georgekarl - February 19, 2012
that's why I'm peeved about the contract
but I agree that he’s a stand up guy and will work hard to get back to the old AAA. That hamstring injury really set him back
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
see jr's shot wasnt faIIin, but he pIayed nice defense on dirk, and made that run out for a big pIay.
ppI get on jr way too much because of his outside shootin, he is a compIete pIayer. aIthough why he’s not gettin in the paint is weird, kind of Iack of confidence when he has aII that athIetic abiIity.
Rys - February 19, 2012
JR will go to the rim
He needs to practice with the Knicks first though
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Uh wilson chandler is back in america?
5baker5 - February 19, 2012

would like to here about his playing status though
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012

5baker5 - February 19, 2012
hopefully soon
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
If one who wasn't familiar with the Nuggets were to read Denver Stiffs recently
and go by the comments, they would most likely conclude
Wilson Chandler has mythical, team-saving game
and
JR Smith was the greatest Nuggets player since David Thompson.
It’s interesting the ebbs and flows of public opinion. If you were to take a poll after the Thunder series in the playoffs last season you would conclude that Wilson Chandler was a bum who didn’t bother to show up for the playorrs, and JR Smith was a talented and infuriating knucklehead who either played fantastic or was a complete tool.
I’m not bagging on you guys, I’m just chuckling at the complete 180 in opinion. And before someone says it, yes I’m aware JR has his fans…but if you read the comments after the series last year they were much more balanced than they are now.
Jeffrey Morton - February 19, 2012
playoffs...not playorrs
Jeffrey Morton - February 19, 2012
I'm not saying Chandler will be a savior
but he will help this team in some fashion until we get fully healthy.
As for JR, I have always been a big supporter of his
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
I would like Chandler to come back
but I don’t want Masai to overpay him like he did with AAA
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Chandler will help this team more than brewer will...
Not hating on brewer but chandler is obviously better than him..
5baker5 - February 19, 2012
Agree
If AAA doesn’t get his act together we should start
Mozgov
Nene
Gallo
Chandler
Ty
When fully healthy
TheMozgovCocktail - February 19, 2012
Well I am one of those JR fans who has always been behind JR
But I will contend games 3 and 5 were lost when JR was sitting on the bench.
Oh and btw he and Gallo won us game 4.
So yes, I do miss JR and even when we had the lead with JR, Karl still tried to play the much worse Felton over him.
It was disgusting and offensive to me, probably worse for JR. He is thinking I am playing well, we have the lead, then coach takes me out and we start losing the lead.
Ugh yeah I would ship out of town too.
JR15 - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Wow. I just read this,
and the thought of Karl keeping Felton in the game and sitting JR just made me irrationally angry.
love4nuggets - February 19, 2012
I think you're knocking down straw men a little bit re chandler
All I have read is that he’s a good player that can definitely help us, especially when we are depleted. I haven’t really seen anyone say he will single-handedly turn the season around.
Rainbow skyline - February 19, 2012
wow you guys gotta check out what kmart said on si.com
bIasts karI for dumpin on meIo when he isnt on the team anymore. if karI was such a great coach, then meIo wouIdnt want to Ieave. that now that him, meIo, and jr are out, he got what he wanted, anyways cIearIy kmart did not Iike karI much and didnt see him as a great coach.

Maybe Andrew will.
He’s calling out Melo for not playing through his injuries.

Especially with guys who have no history of milking injuries.
They are not Vince Carter in Toronto.
paidinfull87 - February 19, 2012
True
SDcat09 - February 19, 2012
Gallo has a severely sprained ankle that we were very fortunate wasn't a chip fracture as well
so I’d say that’s legit. Nene had a pre-existing injury that actually caused the calf strain. Probably best for him to sit out until he is better.
Jeffrey Morton - February 19, 2012
I'm just excited that the game will be on ESPN
well for the viewing not the announcers, although JVG won’t be doing it, so that’s okay.

Phil H. - February 19, 2012
I have been supporting the Nuggets fir a looong time and that won't change.
Still doesn’t mean that Rudy is worse or reveal that Karl is not the greatest coach.
JR15 - February 19, 2012

that Rudy is a game time decision with his back…maybe we’ll get to see J-Ham (bestest last name evah, btw) get some burn tonight.

My electric keyboard crapped out mid-song and mid-set. We spent about 10 minutes between songs trying to get it to work, tried three different cables to the sound system, tried every channel on the board… Nothing was working.
Then I turned the keyboard off and back on and, of course, it worked.
