After being outscored 32-19 after the first quarter, the Nuggets outscored the Clippers 93-59 the rest of the way and beat the Los Angeles Clippers 112-91 behind Danilo Gallinari's 21 points and 5-5 shooting from downtown. What win and what a hard foul by Timofey Mozgov on Blake Griffin's dunk attempt in the third quarter (11:15 mark). We must protect this paint! Go Nuggets ...

What the hell kind of lie is that?
Of course I know the Soup Nazi.
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
Rule 32.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
Nah, she filled me in on the importance of a subject line when posting an image.
Rookie mistake by me as I rarely post images. Just felt right tonight. Wacky night, went to my 4th Avs game, was horribly boring.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Then no soup for you then.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
I’m making the soup buddy boy, I’ll drink as much broth as I want! hahaha
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
It might. :)
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
That was quite a beat down and was totally fun to watch
SDcat09 - February 2, 2012
Great win for the Nuggets
Safe flight home tonight and hope they are ready for the Lakers!!!
SD_Nugget_Fan - February 3, 2012
Anyone else here think they should just cancel the game tomorrow?
Reminds me of Allen Iversons’ first game as a Nugget when he had to fly in to the Colorado Springs Airport because of the blizzard in Denver.
Jeffrey Morton - February 3, 2012
Should but.
It ain’t happening unless the team is stuck in LA until tomorrow. ESPN is airing it and money talks. Gonna be like the NY game. Gonna have to suck it up.
Luckily it is a home game. I have a feeling GK is calling on the Birdman tomorrow……..
caw caw.
djyoung71 - February 3, 2012
They should play a double header.
SD_Nugget_Fan - February 3, 2012
I would LMAO
if that happened.

Is it true that it was both Billups and Andre's 1000 game? and they were playing against each other?
And they have both been Nuggets? And both been Clippers?
How weird is that?
All Day Jay - February 3, 2012
Crazy
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
Great win for the Nugs
Still give up way too many wide open 3’s.
Also, I thought it was big when we knocked Griffin down – they just weren’t the same team after.
chantech - February 3, 2012
Moz is growing up.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
Absolutely loved that foul. Also liked how Blake tried to fake like his arm was hurt after he airballed the first free throw and then he proceeded to brick the second one. What a wonderful thing a hard foul is!
Also, Moz went for the clean block, Blake’s left arm should have got him an offensive foul as he was trying to shield Moz away from him and that made the contact much worse and caused him to spin and fall violently.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Griffin always pushes off – he used his elbow on his dunk against Perk too.
chantech - February 3, 2012
More teams need to put him on his ass if he’s trying to showboat in midair.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
FEAR THIS MAN!!
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
That face just say "Killer" to me.
…either that or … nah, just that. KILLER!
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Forgot the Turtle...FEAR THE MOZ!!!!
SD_Nugget_Fan - February 3, 2012
Put him on his ass, but only going for the ball like Moz did
Mozgov played great clean defense on that play. And you gotta love that Mr. Silky offensive game of his.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Very good point. Go for the block and go hard.
Moz, had Blake not used his off hand to ward him away, might have blocked it clean or at least just stood Blake up. You know Moz has been thinking about what he’d do if he ever had a shot to block Blake again.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Oh.
And SB Nation to teh Stiff List.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
Seriously!
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
I missed the whole thing. No replay on Altitude.
And was SB nation messing up for anyone else??
Sad fucking panda.

love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
I was grabbing a beer just after halftime
I turned around and saw blake griffin completely flunk the dunk and get shaken up afterward.
I knew then we had a good chance of winning it.
InboundingLobPass - February 3, 2012 via mobile
Haha! Flunk the dunk?
Love it.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
He didn't flunk the dunk
he got Moz’d
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
The box score doesn't lie
Check the minutes played. Looks a little closer to a customary NBA rotation. Seems like it worked to have some height against theirs. 41 to 28 rebound advantage looks so lovely in the box score. So nice to see our starters getting to play their game, and then have the fourth quarter be a laugher in the first game of this b2b2b. Whew!
Yes, small ball helped to get us back in the game, which is how it should work. And then Moz played the whole third quarter and lead widened. GO NUGGETS!
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Karl reads this blog.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
I kinda doubt it
but if so, let’s hope some of us Stiffs are making sense.

Im very excited about jordan hamilton... much better than faried it looked like
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Haha maybe!
I saw the last 6 minutes.
Totally different players, but they both may be great future pieces.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
I like hamiltons offensive ability... nice passing too
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Ditto.
Confidence is important for him, much like JR me thinks.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
Good point i agree.. where was jstone?
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
That's what I was yelling at my poor friend!
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
I actually liked having Miller out there to show the rookies how to get it done and he sets them up great.
Has to be nice to play with ’Dre out there as a rook. Sort of assimilating them to regular action?
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
This completely
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
Good point! just excited bout the young talent
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Couldn't agree more!
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
Yes
but seeing Jstone didn’t appear on the box score I think he wasn’t available tonight
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
Faried turned it over on a soft pass just after entering the game
I love the guy, but he’s nowhere near ready to play solid ball. But he can sure as hell hit the offensive boards. Let’s hope he gets more time in blowouts and then settles into something very good. He’ll fill a huge need on this team.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
His hands are like fly paper
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
I thought things _stuck_ to flypaper?
Things like easy passes?
Chrysicat - February 3, 2012
Did he butterfinger tonight?
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
Faried had some nice catches and a few good dunks. Got to a lot of rebounds as usual too. He would be a great 5-10 minute spark plug for this team, RIGHT NOW!
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
I agree.
It really does seem like his hands are sticky sometimes. Good kid too.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
He’ll learn.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
Hopefully he’s developing.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
I actually want to see Faried
Get 30-35 minutes in a game, just ONCE. Even if it’s against one of the weaker teams, I think that kind of experience and playing with the starting unit can do wonders for a developing player.
Agaliarept - February 3, 2012
Bobcats game ... I might be able to get in the Bobcats rotation.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
I knew right after that happened that someone would point to it and proclaim that means he’s not ready. Kid can crash the boards and just needs more playing time to get the speed of the game down. You can’t learn your job by just mirroring people all day. Gotta get behind the wheel sometime.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
He's just a tight kid when he enters the game
I agree he needs minutes at the right moments in games. Hoping he develops into something solid, and fast. We need what he brings.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
YEP, you don't want to see him come into a game 92-92 with 10 ticks left.
But he could easily come in at 34-31 with 10 min left in the 2nd quarter …
Being tight, he’ll get over that with experience. Just like any new job …
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Totally different positions and styles of play.
Both look like they could contribute on different teams, Denver is pretty deep and they wont get the minutes they need this season … but they sure look like they can play.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
They’re keepers.
Kevin L - February 3, 2012
I advocated for drafting Hamilton over Faried
but I’m glad we have both on the team. Really wanted to come onto DS as J-Ham looked great tonight, but SBNation was trolling hard.
Agaliarept - February 3, 2012
I yelled at Hamilton, it was pretty quiet
He heard me. Then seconds later drained a JUMPER!

Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
It was your fault for not having subject lines :P
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
If it was firewall issues because it was being attacked...
…then I’m almost happy it went down. Last night around the same time, a scareware site managed to hijack one of my SBN connections, and that would have been worse if I didn’t know to just ignore all the fear messages and CLOSE THE BLOODY TAB IMMEDIATELY WTH AS LITTLE INTERACTION AS POSSIBLE…

Anybody know what Brewer's "personal reasons" are?
He would have had a blast on the floor tonight. His kind of game. Hope he’s back to active soon.

But Ham wouldn’t have had some Burn.

The U.N. Fab Five - February 3, 2012 via mobile
THE NUGGETS ARE CHAMPIONSHIP LOCKS AGAIN
at least until they lose another game, in which case it’s time to trade half the team.
My thoughts:
1. As Chan mentioned above, Mozzy’s hard foul on Blake totally changed this game. Moz proceeded to dominate the paint for most of the quarter as the nugs turned it into a laugher. That foul showed a nastiness we have been sorely lacking this season and I hope it wasn’t just residual bitterness toward Blake and we see a lot more of it. Also, I hope GK was taking notes and if we find ourselves in a memphis-like situation getting absolutely bullied in the paint down the stretch, GK inserts the Big Russian to restore order. I am much higher on Moz than I was 24 hours ago.
2. The nugs were obviously angry about the last two games, and the clips were probably reading a little too much of their own press.
3. In the preview thread, Danherb predicted a final of 112-88. Holy shit. Ballsy predicting a nugs blowout, but props to that guy.

Not nearly all of us who are bitching are overreacting to losses
I’m thrilled we won tonight—and some of the reason we did is better substitutions, height for rebounding, and more minutes for the starters when it mattered. But my complaints remain regardless of short-term success or failure.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Karl finally played a big line-up alot of the game and hey it worked the same as a small lineup
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
But it wsn't the big lineup _you_ want every night...
…as a matter of fact, one of the major pieces you think should be in instead, wasn’t even available to play
Chrysicat - February 3, 2012
I don't mean to call anyone out

First Timer
Quick background if anyone cares – Pistons fan/homer, but they’re awful, so over the years I’ve grown to love a handful of other teams; mostly western teams. The Nuggets are a bit special though; always liked them for the intriguing Carmelo – AI combo; then liked them a lot when we killed our franchise and gave your’s a boost. (I’ve hated Dumars since then…) Also, I liked those up and coming Knicks from last year, but my favorites were all shipped to the Nuggs. A bigger fan I became.
What a win. My goodness. A beatdown. Glad to see Gallo get his form back; he killed it from 3. That’s a 2-2 split with LA thus far with the wins as revenge. Can’t wait to see them go 3-2 tomorrow. :)

Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Thanks guys.
Good to be here. The welcome is heart-warming. :) I’m also a fan since Nene and Ty are anchors of a few of my fantasy hoops teams (so pissed I could never grab Gallo :/).
blubomber17 - February 3, 2012
twss? I KEED! I KEED!
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
Nuggs teammates call Mozgov "Drago" we hear ...
I’ve always thought your boy Jerebko needed that nickname:
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
I love him
I sincerely hope he’s part of the future for the Pistons. Him, Monroe, Knight and Daye (if they develop), and hell maybe even Stuckey… some pieces. But they need improvement. Like soon. And nowish.
blubomber17 - February 3, 2012
Oh you poor guy!
Or gal! Dumars seems to be in some trouble in the mental faculties department. In all seriousness, I’ve hated seeing how he’s dealt with the Pistons the last few years, especially his treatment of coaches. Of course, the strange trades haven’t panned out, either.
Like you, I appreciate and follow other teams in the league, too. Even ones in our division!
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
This division
is LOADED. It’s ridiculous. I like this division a lot. I was a Jazz fan with D-Will, but… he’s stuck in NJ and I am holding on to the thinking that the Jazz will die down (think NO of last year, just minus playoffs… maybe).
blubomber17 - February 3, 2012
This crazy season makes predictions a crapshoot, eh?
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Ridiculously so
I did a random spreadsheet-esque type thing with my predictions. for the Northwest:
OKC – 48-18
DEN – 42-24
POR – 40-26
UTH – 35-31
MIN – 27-39
This was about 2-3 weeks ago; perhaps I bought too much Portland stock and not enough Minny. But the Nuggs, per my predictions, get in the West semis as a 2-seed where they meat Memphis (another team I really enjoy; I have them as the friggin 3 seed) and I have them unfortunately losing in either 6 or 7. :/ What a matchup that would be though. The future is so intriguing. This season has been too awesome.
blubomber17 - February 3, 2012

Have you met DS?
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
who is ds
Wayne Crimi - February 3, 2012
Denver Stiffs :)
SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
LOL
Wait until Faried starts getting minutes later in the season.
Wilson Chandler will also be available off the bench soon.
If people think the team is deep now, just wait!
Wayne Crimi - February 3, 2012
Am I the only one who _doesn't_ want to re-sign Chandler?
It’s not like he’ll have fresh legs this year—he started playing three months before everyone else—and I don’t see him fitting in here long-term either, so why are we working so hard to sign him rather than being able to reallocate his money somewhere else?
Chrysicat - February 3, 2012
Rest assured that you are not alone
This roster is nearly set, and I don’t think Chandler is what we need to make it perfect. I hope Masai parlays him into a player now, or picks for later, or both.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
I’m in the hoping for picks camp
JBnuggs - February 3, 2012
What kind of player?
Chandler was my favorite piece in that Knicks deal at the time. Really liked his game and I want him on this team. Sadly, I do agree that he doesn’t really fit in tough. He’s too good to be Gallo’s backup and too big to play shooting guard. I surely don’t want to see him get power forward minutes …
The issue with trading him … only teams that have cap room or show interest are able to sign him. He originally wanted Danny Granger money (at least his agent mentioned it) which was 5 years and $60 million: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3676045 … who can afford that deal now? I wonder what sort of offers he’ll get and what is acceptable to him and his agent.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
tough = though
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
I've been hammering away at
the need for a rugged scorer who can get baskets when the going gets tough due to 1) stellar defensive efforts that shut down our scorers, or 2) others have gone cold or don’t want the ball in crunch time (I won’t mention names…). I keep saying a Millsap type. Brandon Bass fits this description, too, if you squint just right. Those guys love to mix it up and get a shot off.
I believe this kind of player would make the Nuggets’ roster complete. Get that guy; have training camp and normal schedule; maybe add one full season of development and hard knocks; and put the champagne in the ’frig.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Need to sign him to get any value for him
Whether it’s to play or trade him, we should absolutely sign him.
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
the rotations this evening were far more palletable
I think Karl was done experimenting for a while.
InboundingLobPass - February 3, 2012 via mobile
HELL YES!
The box score looks so much more normal! Height matched with height was part of what expanded and held the lead tonight. Small ball was effective, too, though. Karl just looked more flexible and on his game tonight.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Who is DS?
Wayne Crimi - February 3, 2012
clips fan here
i thought that mozgov foul could have been called a flagrant 1…Miller (can’t believe i’m writing this about him) and Lawson killed the clippers with their penetration…had no answer for it. Team was tired, banged up (dj with his knee and caron with lower back)…these are bound to happen to every team in the league.
Good game by the Nuggs esp Mozgov and Gallinari…still hate Miller though…
Lawler's Law - February 3, 2012
Nah that was a clean foul lol just a bad landing since he was so high up
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Looked clean to me
But they have called similar fouls to be flagrant 1’s. Game doesn’t really prove much. Denver likely thinks they gave a game to the Clippers in Denver. And the Clippers likely were tired out tonight.
Great win for Denver tho, either way.. really needed it!
nugzin2040 - February 3, 2012
Good teams need to put beatdowns on good teams that are tired and the Nuggets did just that. Stepping on the will of a team is important, gave the Clips no hope or reason to think they could win. But I do think the first match-up was the time to make a bigger statement, and the Clips got that one.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
I'm re-watching the game as we speak ... watching the block right now.
Griffin makes first contact with his left arm, Mozgov did come down with his right arm and caught Blake across the top of his chest just a bit … glad it was called just a foul as it was just a hard foul IMO.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Clips were definitely gassed tonight
And who can blame them? Lots of energy expended lately in all those great wins. I’m thrilled to see your team in the hunt. They are a blast to watch.
Can’t agree about the Moz foul. Clean play on the ball, good hard foul. Griffin often pushes off the defender with that arm, and he’s gotta live with the consequences.
Andre Miller is easy to hate when he’s on the opposing team, eh? He’s one of those guys who just shouldn’t be that effective—and then he destroys you with his smarts and deceptive quickness.
Here’s hoping you guys win the Pacific.
LongWindedHank - February 3, 2012
Andre's patented spin move was then to the paint...DOPE!
Viruth Cheng - February 3, 2012
Last time the Nuggets played their 4th in 5
they won…in double OT. No excuses this year, every team has these stretches. Clippers have a crap bench, that’s a fundamental flaw of the team which leads to fatigue, which makes the Nuggets a better team.
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
Miller has a long history with Clippers
Clippers fans hated him even when he was with the team.
cliptakular - February 3, 2012
Man, I've been sick this whole week so,
I’ve missed the last couple games. I’m glad we won though, must’ve been epic. Waiting for the recap now.

Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
What did you think of afflalos game?
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
A bit of a bounce back game for Arron ... near his hometown (Compton!)
Loved his tough defense on Chris Paul. As we saw with Dahntay Jones (during that WCFs run), you can get in CP3’s head. I think Denver, AAA and also Lawson, did a nice job frustrating him and got physical with him.
Afflalo making Paul work to bring the ball up and Lawson making him work when on defense is a nice combination to have. And Miller is too strong for him.
But back to Arron …
His shot will be fine eventually, but I liked how he got himself to the foul line and knocked down all 8-8 when he was there. 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Still pressing a little bit, but he’s going to do that. I’m not too worried about AAA and think something will click on like a light bulb and he’ll get back to being the player we saw last season.
Again, tough defense from him and he got his points in a different way tonight by getting himself to the foul line, love that.
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
He shot the ball alot better
Id say his most effective move is when he slashes and then pulls up for the jumper.. that seemed to work tonight… if he contributes 15 points a night ill be happy.. is defense was superb also
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
3-6 shooting (1-2 from deep). He didn’t shoot a lot, well he did get fouled quite a bit and those don’t count towards your total, and we’ll have to wait and see if it’s consistent. I bet it is…
Nate Timmons - February 3, 2012
Thanks. Looking forward to it
moondoggie12 - February 3, 2012

5baker5 - February 3, 2012
I can't wait though
It’ll likely focus half on that Knicks game, then a portion on the Clips standoff and likely some of the other games too. Can’t wait to see what Gallo has to say.

Because it's reality

The Chandler situation is sticky
The Nuggets just paid Gallo, Nene and AAA a big chunk of their available space. They are fully behind Ty and Gallo as their future. I can’t picture Chandler wanting to back up Gallo…but you never know.
Ill Wills disappearing act in the playoffs bugged me. His attitude was poor and his play was atrocious…maybe he was just having a bad series and let it go to his head? Only he knows I guess.
Jeffrey Morton - February 3, 2012
I will say...Bird seems to be on his way out
he racked up his fifth DNP-CD of the years
Jeffrey Morton - February 3, 2012
and by years I mean year
stupid fat fingers. I need to order a special dialing wand
Jeffrey Morton - February 3, 2012
Chandler should absolutely be resigned
I agree that extending Ty is the number one priority, but thats not a concern until next season. This season Chandler should be the focus. His defensive intensity and nice jumpers will be extremely important come playoff time. I don’t remember Chandler having a bad attitude last year against OKC he just missed a lot of shots. As I recall the only two hot-headed Nuggets were JR and Karl during that series. I still thought Chandler played respectable defense on Durant during that series, he just struggled on offesne. I really don’t agree with the notion that he is too big to guard SGs. He is quick!
As for the future, it is unclear whether Rudy or Dre will be back. Ideally I would love to see Chandler starting at the 2 (he can guard SGs) with Afflalo coming off the bench. I think Chandler is worth 8-9 mil a year. If Toronto or some other team offers him more than that then I won’t be as upset if the Nuggets let him go.

Josh Kroekne said on the radio the other day
That this team is not the final product, he there will be 2 more pieces added before the team is finalized

Where do we think
Wilson should/will end up, presuming he’s not kept? I personally haven’t the slightest idea.

Nice game by AAA last night
Played good D on Paul and looked better on O.
Not bad rotations by Karl too. Nice to the bigs get time. Good work Moz.
Pusherman - February 3, 2012
Muuuuuch better...
GK finally put a little variety into the lineup and those were sweet results! I don’t like to say this, but it was the small lineup that pushed us back up from down 10 to catching them, BUT, as someone pointed out – then he went back to big and all that was left was in the rear view mirror. AAA – I’ve been down on him and he looked like he came around – took the ball to the hole really well – he persisted instead of kicking it back out when he was stopped – me thinks that he is going to have to adjust his game to the new personnel and be a bit more “me” oriented – he’s not going to get all those open jumpers he got last year. Moz was the man – just a nice solid game with monster presence in the lane. I have blasted Rudy’s flat feet in the past, but with help on D, he was REALLY pesky last night – he really pissed off CP3 along with Ty and AAA. I have always been an Andre fan and always will, no matter what – the guy is just… “Andre-like” – consummate pro – he has picked us up so many times this season when we could have folded. Ty – looked like he was getting his game-pace back tonight. I HATE the small ball, but will say that when Andre and Ty are in there, it isn’t like having 2 PG’s – they are both “true” offensive threats and it is a true combo of 1-2 guards. It’s when the 3rd guard gets tossed in that I start chewing my nails. Defense stunk in the first quarter/half – could have been just getting lose in an away game – but it wasn’t playoff level defense. Watched the Thunder the other night – scary good… And I stick by my GK statements – the guy still gets outcoached too much and the word stubborn until in the flames still stands… for now. That was awesome to watch!!
