With all this talk of the Nuggets needing a superstar and the obvious collapse as of late i thought of something that may seem unlikely but not impossible.
If we miss playoffs lottery suggets we may net somewhere between the 12-15 pick, if we were to couple that with Wilson Chandler and either MOZ or Kosta would that be good enough top land a top 5 pick and potentially that "Superstar"

A top 5 pick and a superstar?
No way.
Ferris_ - February 20, 2012
we aren't getting a top 5 pick with our record
We might get a top 15 pick if we keep tanking like this, not that a top 15 pick would be bad with our roster, when our team is healthy, we are pretty damn good. The draft next year will be a good one, so maybe the extra piece we need will be found in the top 15.
CloudBurst - February 20, 2012
read the post, people
He said package the 12-15 pick with Chandler and Mozgov to get into the top 5.
Berserker13 - February 20, 2012
if things were to turn out that way, it's a pretty good suggestion
though I gotta say I’m not too keen on giving up Mozgov. I wonder if a 15 pick and Wilson Chandler gets you to 5?
note to some people: make sure you read the post before you lambast the author.
NugNugz - February 20, 2012
Good idea
If we do sign Chandler for the rest of the season, I wonder if Ujiri is already thinking this way. He could be a good “rent-a-player” to bring some added punch and then put together with our 1st rounder to move up in the draft.
That being said – who would we be targeting?
I agree I don’t like the idea of giving up K2 or Mozgov – both who are developing well and fit into the scheme here taking some of the pounding of a 5 off of Nene – for the chance at someone who might be something 3 years down the road.
If we were going to add someone into the package I would put Birdman in long before either Koufos or Mozgov. He is aging and between Nene, Moz, K2, Big Al, and Faried (and even Gallo) we have guys doing all the things he does.
Jaybark7 - February 20, 2012
i wouId do it easiIy it's either make or brk at this point.
i wouId trade chandIer, moz then if someone wouId take affIaIo for a 1st round pick, then trade that 1st round pick too. if drummond drops, we wouId havea Iegit C, I Iike moz and koufos but come on if you can get drummond by tradin them you do it. at this point moz and koufos Iook Iike back ups.
Rys - February 20, 2012
I don't think I'm in love with that.
Mainly because I don’t want to part with Kufos or Mozgov. I like having two big guys around. Also, they aren’t rookies anymore. They both have some play time and are really getting it.
Two young 7 footers who are starting to make a positive difference in these games. I wouldn’t trade that.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
I think I'll be criticized for saying this
but I’d rather hold onto Koufos and Mozgov than Nene. I am a longtime supporter of Nene, but that contract is just ridiculous for his stats.
NugNugz - February 20, 2012
There are so few game changers in the NBA and
even fewer coming out of college.
High draft picks usually get you good, even very good players. But we’ve already got that, on the team and at the doctors office.
If you see a LBJ, or DHoward on the college horizon, let me know because I dont see any and if there was one, why would any team give us a shot at one for a few of our OK players?
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
I thought DeJuan Blair was gonna be one of those game changers.
Guess not but he’s pretty good.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
yeah you make a great point GK, in fact, the NBA is littered with
guys thought to be game changers who dont even play as well as our near stars do.
I mean, look at JWall, a great talent, maybe great future, but what is he exactly changing?
Then theres a guy like Lin, who so far is a game changer, league changer, whoda thunk it?
IMO there are maybe a couple game changer per 5 – 10 years. Others are pretenders.
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
Or maybe got stuck in the wrong place.
Blair is listed as a Center for SA when he’s what? 6’7" I think.
Of course it depends on your definition of game changer too. For all his points last night I think Durant wasn’t the game changer for OKC, it was Ibaka.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
absolutely
what Ibaka did changed everything after the 1st quarter. KD is great, killed us for sure but, without Gallo, we dont have a mnatch up for KD
Frankly, I think gallos absence was still hige for use because while KD may still torch gallo, he might go for 40 instead of 50. If KD gets 40 instead of 50 against Gallo, we win
Oh, and Gallo would also keep KD occupied on the other end.
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
Yeah, minus ten points off of OKCs score last night would have been grand!
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
jeremy Lin
is the product of D’Antoni’s system, a Carmelo absence and NY media.
NugNugz - February 20, 2012
but he is good, no?
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
he is good yes.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
And I was enthralled with the Tebow saga and
the Lin story has parallels to Tebow’s but I could see terrible flaws in TT’s game but really dont see same with Lin’s game
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
I also like Lin and the fact that he has a degree in Economics.
I was accepted to Stanford which was my first choice. I plan to double major in Economics and Computer Science. Us Economists have to stick together.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
ya have to stick together
because there are so many hurdles for elite school educated economics majors:)
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
My dad would say
‘thats how the rich get richer.’
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
You're at Stanford?
I’m working on a PhD here.
EmersonCR - February 21, 2012 via Android app
Not until the Spring.
I don’t graduate high school for two months.
georgekarl - February 21, 2012
lol
NugNugz - February 24, 2012
Lin is the real deal!
Lin’s hype is because he produced. Tebow’s hype is not warranted IMO. That being said. Something DRASTIC is going to have to change in NYC. Either D’Antoni’s system or Melo’s game cause I just don’t see it working with all of them playing the way they have.
Larry Cunningham - February 20, 2012
as a NYer
I am amazed at the Knicks luck and bemused that they are a good watch again.
It will be interesting to see what happens but, for a change, I wont use this space to bash Melo because Stiffs are probably tiring of it and frankly so am I but …
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
Another difference between Tebow and Lin
is that Tebow was one of the best college players of all time and a proven winner. The only similarity between the two is that both have cult followings and get excessive air time on ESPN.
RoxWS2014 - February 21, 2012
can it still be a cult following when they are mainstream?
NugNugz - February 24, 2012
Yeah I'm tired of the bashing too.
but I really hope he adjusts. Both Lin and Melo need the ball in their hands to be affective. It will be interesting to say the least.
Larry Cunningham - February 20, 2012
High end players that we might be able to get
I looked at each teams roster.. in my eyes these are the best players we can get from dealing multiple players for. As long as we keep Ty and Gallo, I’m ok with moving a combination of players from our roster and picks. Anyone on this list that you would like to see on this team?
Atl- Josh Smith
Boston- Pierce or Rondo
Indy- Granger
Miami- Bosh
Mil- Jennings
Nets- D Will
NY- Stoudemire
Orlando- Howard
Toronto- Barganini
Washington- Wall
Golden state- Ellis
Lakers- Gasol
Grizz- Mayo or Gay
Minn- Beasley, Derrick Williams
NO- Gordon
OKC- Westbrook
Port- Aldridge or Batun
Sac- Cousins, Evans
Utah- Jefferson
soloking - February 21, 2012
The only one worth getting / possible of getting
IMO would be Josh Smith…but I don’t even know if they’d part with him for what we’re offering. This is why I think we should be trading for a high pick. That’s our best shot of getting a difference-maker at a position of need.
RoxWS2014 - February 21, 2012
For what you listed
Howard is the only one i would take
Army of Nugs - February 21, 2012
hows this trade?
mcavee for furnadez
ice357 - February 21, 2012
who's
Mcavee?
JBnuggs - February 21, 2012

Rys - March 7, 2012
mcvee sry typo
ice357 - February 22, 2012
Javale McGee?
love4nuggets - February 22, 2012
yes
ice357 - February 22, 2012
Maybe they won't have to trade up
Teams do luck out in the lotto after all. Chicago had a 1.7% chance of getting the top pick when they got Rose. If Denver misses the playoffs, they’ll have at least that good of a chance of getting a top 3 pick.
But if Denver misses the playoffs and they don’t luck out, there is almost no chance they will be able to trade pick #12-14 for a top 5 pick. Chandler and Mozgov don’t have enough value to justify giving up that high of a pick.
nugzin2040 - February 23, 2012
harrington and lawson for Jennings and Jackson
NugNugz - February 24, 2012
not bad, would rather try to get Rondo!
soloking - February 24, 2012
i can't argue with that
that’s like lawson and chandler for Rondo. I’d probably do that. He can’t hit an outside shot but he’d give us some extra rebounds.
NugNugz - February 24, 2012
plus he is a great defender and know how to take charge of the game.
