According to Benjamin Hochman (Hooch) on his twitter, Wilson Chandler is in town and will be meeting with the team today. Chandler will also be attending tonight's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Pepsi Center.
The Nuggets have a good shot at signing Chandler to a reasonable contract. The only wildcard would be the Toronto Raptors if they offer ridiculous money. Is this the move the Nuggets need to break from their doldrums?

More offense atleast... his defense is on par with brewers
he can actually make a midrange shot so it can only help
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
but Will is a physical beast
Brew is more, obviously, lanky and springy
Will matches up against the 6’8" goliaths that we often have to face.
Outside shot is under rated.
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
Yes
They need Thrill Will!
NugzJunkie - February 20, 2012
ill will
Nene & Gallo can only help at this point
NewEraNugg - February 20, 2012
Thrill Will
is his original nickname
NugzJunkie - February 20, 2012
I'll take him...if
I think he can add to this team, if he buys into the team. Running out after a make or a miss and unselfishly moving the ball, and working hard on the glass.
He might be a good addition to create offense in the halfcourt where we have struggled.
There really is a huge danger though. If we split the minutes too many ways it doesn’t give guys the opportunity to control the game and finish it off. You don’t want to lean too heavily on a one or two guys, but we have to develop a solid core (I think it HAS to be Nene, Galo, Ty and not Andre and Al) who will be the go to guys in crunch time.
Jaybark7 - February 20, 2012
Splitting minutes
If Chandler re-signs to a multi-year deal, I think some other players could be moved. Birdman is already reported to be on the block, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Harrington join him there. Al has been playing well, but with Chandler here, you don’t really need both of them.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
I wouldn't mind big Al getting traded.
Nothing against him, I actually like the guy and how hard he’s been playing. But if he’s not here then George can’t play him 20 straight minutes without a rest.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
Al vs Chandler
I don’t know their games well enough. How do they differ in styles of play?
Harrington was fine at the beginning and I feel like we had a stretch where we started to lean on him too much. I like a veteran guy who can hit a jumper, bring a big outside the paint, still get some boards and play decent defense and create match-up problems for teams by going 3 or 4 players over 6’8" on the floor together.
Jaybark7 - February 20, 2012
IMO
Chandler is a bit better defender but less likely to go to the rack.
They have some similarities that match up but Chandler is only 24 so he should be able to handle the grueling schedule a little better.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
one difference
Al is certainly the more explosive scorer but, though Will can go into a funk (see playoffs), Will is still a little more consistent than Al is.
Will is young, fast, strong, blocks shots/intimidates. Will is simply the much better all around player
sgiustra - February 20, 2012

NugNugz - February 20, 2012
re: WC
I like AH’s abillity to drive to the hoop but I agree on the “funk” problem. I just can’t see us keeping him around given his age. As i’ve said in the past, age is a consideration for a team that’s developing. Many fans may have incorrectly — IMO — viewed this team through a ‘veteran frame,’ but we’re actually a very young team (26 and under except for Miller, Andersen and Harrington), so it doesn’t make much sense keep AH for much longer.
Colinski - February 20, 2012
excellent take on our take Colinski
Will is not good at handling ball and breaking down defense while driving a la Gallo.
But Will is a monster filling the lane on fast breaks. Will be good alongside TY

NugNugz - February 20, 2012
Excellent assessment, Jaybark7
TakeFive - February 20, 2012
well for starts chandler can play the sg sf pf
cfact - February 20, 2012
i think about minutes and if and i do mean if GK
Would stop playing 2 pgs at the same time it would all work out in the long run maybe but we all kno that GK has to play 2 pgs
cfact - February 20, 2012
I want Chandler
But the issue is that means we need to rid ourselves of Rudy and Harrington.
NugzJunkie - February 20, 2012
Sure could have used him on Durant last night.
Larry Cunningham - February 20, 2012
or anyone besides Al
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
im sure we trade brewer
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
Brew would be last person I want to trade!!
Jaybark7 - February 20, 2012
likewise.
NugNugz - February 20, 2012
+1
One of the things I don’t want to see if Chandler comes back is Brewer get relegated back to the bench.
Zachm219 - February 20, 2012
no way man
the only players i would consider trading are Dre or Moz if it meant bringing in a nice big or a younger back up esk point guard ie an eric maynor sorts to back up Ty for the long run
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
then he will sadly rott on the bench :(
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
until someone
gets injured… Rudy, AAA, Will, Gallo any of them go down and Brewer takes their spot. He can play 2 as well. I know gk run Dre a lot but still Brewer will find minutes in this nasty schedule
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
i doubt more than one goes down
if rudy falls, aaa and ill will will take that spot,
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
i would be willing to trade dre bird al rudy
cfact - February 20, 2012
I wouldn't trade Moz at all
I’m telling you, this kid is going to be good.
My non trade-able Nuggets:
Gallinari
Brewer
Mozgov
Faried
Heres why:
Gallo is our best player, personally I’m not down with trading our best player two years in a row. Plus, I fully believe in Gallinari, he’s going to be “the guy” on this team. Brewer is the perfect glue guy, something every team needs and his contract is very manageable. Plus, no one is out there throwing out great offers to get the key piece Corey Brewer, so what’s the point of tossing him in a deal or trying to save a little money, he’s well worth it. Mozgov is Denver’s best pick and roll defender. He makes a serious contribution to the defense. Not since Camby have the Nuggets had a center who could bail them out on defense like Mozgov. Young, promising 7 footers do not grow on trees and I personally believe Mozgov is the better of Denver’s two. Faried is a freak of nature and has the potential to become a one of a kind player. He’s on a rookie contract and there’s no reason to deal him.
Some guys (Lawson, Miller, Koufos, Afflalo) only if the right deal came along.
The rest I could see if we found some takers, but personally I wouldn’t be upset at all to see Denver stick with the same roster
Zachm219 - February 20, 2012
YES!!!!!!!!!!
Dude will be playing for big money, will have a shot to start while Gallo is out and will want to prove something. I say sign him to one year and see what he does. If he wants a multi year deal at a reasonable price then maybe, but you have to think about the amnesty on Bird after the year to sign Ty long term. Just get his ass on the team pronto! one year or multi year!
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
And
Corey sits on the bench BUT you have some serious depth at the 2 and 3 spot with Chandler, Gallo, Brewer, AAA, Rudy
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
Signing him to a one year deal
Is a bad move imo. Lowers any chance to get value. Would help us get some wins this year, but in the long run is a raw deal.
nugzin2040 - February 20, 2012
I like to think of Brewer as a JR who doesn't take as many dumb shots and plays D
So less minutes is fine as long as he gets his chance for a meaningful 10-12/game
Jaybark7 - February 20, 2012
Nuggs will have to unload someone and it will probably be Brewer or Hamilton
Unless someone wants Bird which after the last couple of games, the way he played, there are some teams that could use that energy in short bursts.
Personally I would try to move Rudy keep the rest of the team intact.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
why do you have to trade?
why not send Ham back down and keep your roster in tact? wait til the offseason to make roster moves
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
Because we could trade brewer for picks, cash,.. same for bird
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
I don't see them trading Brewer unless the really HAVE to
Our offensive design, such as it is, requires running. Brewer is a runner for sure.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
Perhaps there needs to be a change to the offensive design.
Pusherman - February 20, 2012
You can say that again.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
Depends what you mean in picks
Don’t think either are worth more then a 2nd rounder to be honest. I’d be ok dealing Al, Bird and Rudy in straight dumps if we could tho. Even giving up 2nd round picks would be worth it for long-term financial stability.
nugzin2040 - February 20, 2012
Yeah, I guess you could do that
But doesn’t his salary still go into the cap? I think they will want to drop a few $mil if the bring on Chandler.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
maybe a team will lose
a sig. Bigman and need a player like Bird to fill in by the trade deadline
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
I could see that.
He’s been on the ball lately and he knows the axe is gonna drop. He wants to go into his next gig on the waves of a good rep. Smart!
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
yep
and he also seems like a great teamate… someone who you could easily pluck into a rotation and be okay with and not have attitude issues or anything like that. It very well could happen to a playoff team in the East or maybe even west depending on what he could bring back… if anything.
NastyNessy71 - February 20, 2012
George Karl said about Bird
“He doesn’t give me any grief when I don’t play him. He knows this team has a lot of talent and that I need to give the younger guys some time.”
Hopefully his new prospective employers heard this quote too.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
ive heard that the ATL is wanting another big man i could see us trading bird and al to them
cfact - February 20, 2012
Bird and Al for Hinrich/Dampier/Draft pick
Would be a good trade in the long-term
nugzin2040 - February 20, 2012
Still counts against the roster if the player goes to the D-League
CombatChuk - February 20, 2012
It'd be Bird or Rudy that gets the boot
Rudy is on a 1 year flyer and Bird has been on the block for a while
CombatChuk - February 20, 2012
There is a roster spot already open
We released Carroll with Chandler in mind.
Russscot - February 20, 2012
Still are over the limit
When everyone is healthy, we still need to have 1 inactive as it is now. Before Nene went down, Hamilton and Stone were trading games being inactive.
Army of Nugs - February 20, 2012
We have 14. 15 is Max. And D-League does NOT count if the player is not brought back up.
The U.N. Fab Five - February 20, 2012 via mobile
yes
but can only have 13 active. think that drops to 12 in a couple weeks
Army of Nugs - February 20, 2012
Can we make G.K. inactive for games?
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
I wish
I need to keep trying to contact someone to get the job as a translator so I can provide everyone insight on what GK is actually doing
Army of Nugs - February 20, 2012
Who cares about the active part.
All teams have inactive players as the league minimum is 13 per team
The U.N. Fab Five - February 20, 2012
and cant dribbIe, pass, or get his own shot.
Rys - February 20, 2012
they don't have to move anyone. there is a roster spot
with carroll being cut.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 20, 2012
I think we're going to see a trade for sure
some combination of Bird/Rudy/Brewer/Hamilton/Al/Dre. I feel like any of these guys can be had if a team comes calling with the right offer. I know Karl will be sad to see Dre go, but I just don’t think he fits on this team if he’s not the starter, and Karl plays him too many minutes for being “Ty’s backup”
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
I agree..
with everything you just said. It’s a virtual lock, if ILL Will returns….
UKnowULovedVanQwik - February 20, 2012
of those guys
I hope we keep Brew and Ham
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
don't care here...
All of ’em could go for all I care. I want to see our “horses” get more run. When/if healthy of course.
UKnowULovedVanQwik - February 20, 2012
I hope we keep hamilton
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
this^
hamilton can get his own shot which alot of the other nuggets cant
cfact - February 20, 2012
yep
his potential is sky high. I can see him becoming a solid gunslinger off the bench (better than Harrington but similar role)
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
Haven't seen enough of his D
but I personally see him as a 2 guard. Loved him at Texas – dude knows how to score.
RoxWS2014 - February 21, 2012
I saw him get his own airball last night
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
Everyone but Hamilton
On your list, I could see. Would be surprised to see JHam get traded to be honest.
nugzin2040 - February 20, 2012
We want the stiff list, we want the stiff list!
Pretty sure we were promised a new one of these today! Okay, I’m just going to make up my own.
1) G.K. – For the obvious reasons. If you disagree, you are well within your right to have a wrong opinion.
2) Whoever at ESPN had the brilliant idea to use the term “chink” in a sentence about Jeremy Lin.
3) Nuggets injuries. Hopefully the team has used up the season allotment for injuries all at once.
4) NBA schedule makers. Will be on the list the entire season. This schedule is turrible.
5) Masai Ujiri – for frustrating me by giving no indication whatsoever regarding his satisfaction or lack thereof with G.K.’s coaching this season. Entirely the right way to operate, incredibly frustrating as a fan.
Non-Stiff of the week: ESPN’s score graphic in-game. It includes both the number of timeouts remaining for each team, and tells you if a team is in the bonus or not for fouls. Hopefully TNT and Altitude pick up this idea and add the info to their score graphics.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
Nicely done.
georgekarl - February 20, 2012
you have to take ujiri off
5baker5 - February 20, 2012
I don't think Ujiri wants another season
of drama like last season. I’m not sure he deserves to be on the Stiff list at this point. I think if we are in the playoff hunt it’s going to be a bit difficult to fire him. I would imagine it would happen in the off-season at the earliest if at all.
SDcat09 - February 20, 2012
As I said, Masia has done it the right way
I just wish I had some inkling of an idea of what he is thinking regarding the coach. I agree that Karl is most likely here for the rest of the season. And if they miss out on sloan after missing out on Adelman, I’m going to be grumpy.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
If it wasn't clear, I think the reason
he’s not discussing is to avoid any more drama. It’s not to say he might not be evaluating GK, but I think he’ll keep it under his hat. IMHO
SDcat09 - February 20, 2012
we're on the same wavelength
I just wish I had an inside connection to what’s under the hat. If I can arrange to go to the nuggets bowling thing this year, I’ll ask him. He won’t tell me anything, but perhaps I can read his body language. I’ll have to ask AON if non-verbal communication differs significantly in his native land.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
You can't go wrong adding a solid asset
It’s partly about assets, not just how he fits with the team. If he plays well, he fits fine.
Chances are Chandler will have to settle for less than he wished but at least he’ll have a deal.
With the new CBA and a fresh crop of prospects from a strong draft just around the corner, he can’t afford to be just hangin’ at the local sports bar. Guessing a three/four year deal at $6.5 million plus incentives, similar to Afflalo.
TakeFive - February 20, 2012
Blockbuster trade pending
With Chandler’s signing no team has a better collection of mid-level, solid talent than the Nuggets.
Look for them to be the third team facilitator in the D-Howard trade.
TakeFive - February 20, 2012
Will is a no frills
low maintenance kind of guy and thats why he will fit with us.
One way I look at Will is that he’s not a specialist, like Al is for ex. Will could fill in where we need him to and I am most intrigued with him at SG (though AAA is playiing better). At SG Will could spell AAA, minimize the 2 PG tendency. Will could also easily slide to 3 and 4 as needed.
sgiustra - February 20, 2012
Guys Harrington and Birdman will not be traded unless
Denver gives up more in return. With their contract situations, they are the financial equivalent of being upside down—eating up cap space while aging and having no upside.
I could see a team offering up expiring trash for Bird, but that’s it.
rxmart2 - February 20, 2012
except that Al's contract is not fully guaranteed
Russscot - February 20, 2012
And Al is in the conversation for sixth man of the year
Harden probably has it locked down, but Al isn’t far behind. Neither bird nor Al are going to bring major assets in return, but both still have value and neither has a bad contract.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
Al is not close to 6th man of the year
He started out hot but has regressed tremendously. Bird is and will always be a nice backup big, but he’s still owed 2+ seasons on a contract that’s trending upward while his skills declining. I could see a contender giving up a pick for him possibly, but there are no contenders other than Miami that fit the mold.
rxmart2 - February 20, 2012
Let's just say
that Masai is a better GM than either of us. I would bet you real cashola that he get’s more than a second round pick for Bird. He’ll get something that will make us all amazed at what just happened.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
that's what Ive been saying
he’s gonna make something happen, and chances are it will be a great move
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
I'd be amazed
If Masai gets even a 2nd rounder for Bird. Both of the other trades he has pulled off, he was bargaining from a position of strength. Knicks were worried Melo would take the best offer (NY or NJ), and the Mavericks were trying to save cap for this off-season.
The draft day trade was gold though. Portland overvalued Felton mainly from his run in New York.
nugzin2040 - February 20, 2012
The NBA where amazing happens
and where Masai gets Rudy and Brewer for a second round pick.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
Lotta season left to go.... MoWill and a couple of others up there as well
TakeFive - February 20, 2012
Yes understood,
but this year and next are at full price, and he still needs to be bought out on the last two.
Tough to move him until next year, and won’t be easy then. Kinda sucks because he’s taking a lot of burn away from our rooks. He’s been playing bad recently, but he also won a few games earlier.
rxmart2 - February 20, 2012
He's been playing bad because Karl is wearing him out IMO
He and Dre are the only guys who have played in every game this year. They both need a day off here and there if we want them to stay effective.
JBnuggs - February 20, 2012
Lets see if we can get him on board.
If so we’ve got a good chance of winning the championship this year… <— lol

I sat in that general vicinity
and thought the seats were good. You can see the whole court which is nice
SDcat09 - February 20, 2012
They aren't bad
obviously not as good as lower level or club. End seats can make it harder to tell what is happening when the ball is at the far end of the court. But going to the game is fun, and you are less likely to run into douchey types in the upper deck.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012

Bob in Boulder - February 20, 2012
Debate
Will Chandler help get us back on course and into playoffs and win at least 1 series or is this going to be a stupid signing that stunts the growth of our rookies and throws off chemistry?
Army of Nugs - February 20, 2012
the latter, no question
NugNugz - February 20, 2012
Or is this signing
setting up another trade?
Army of Nugs - February 20, 2012
This is my guess
Masai is trying to set up the nuggets to be like the Steelers in the NFL. Not the super flashy team, but the team that year in and year out competes, and when things go right they win a title.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 20, 2012
I'm just sitting back waiting to see what happens
