Clips Nation looking for some answers...

Steve Perrin of Clips Nation fired three questions my way about your Denver Nuggets and one about a familiar face:

SP: Kenyon Martin has been a Clipper for seven games. He was a Nugget for seven years. What can you tell us about what the team should expect to get from KMart?

That last question is a perfect explination of Martin

I also liked martin he set the tone for this team alot. My favorite memory of K-mart is when he laid out Dirk in the playoffs and we did not hear from dirk the rest of the series. The almost low light is someone what more personal. Me being a Utah nuggets fan my low light was last season when I watched Denver pull away at the end of the game in SLC about to get a RARE win in utah when the jazz drain a 3 ball only to have k-mart be an idiot and had the ball to AK who luckly for us botched a lay up that would have taken us to OT. But on a grander scale like you said he just did dumb ish at the worst times.

What will KM say to GK?
I'm guessing it would be bleeped out if shown on the air.
nah..

KM has always found a way to get past the dump guys on live games. You’d think they’d be be hovering over the dump button when he’s playing defense, but somehow it always gets through.

I doubt KMart will be confrontational before the game if he talks to Coach Karl

During the game all bets are off though if he gets pumped up. Its also one thing to say something to a reporter in an article, but another thing to start mouthing off in person to one of the elder statesman coaches in the league. If KMart wants to continue collecting a decent paycheck in this league he would be smart to avoid a situation that would look bad for him no matter what the history.

What can you tell us about what the team should expect to get from KMart?

injuries?

KMart or Nene?
both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always liked him as a player.

Big, strong, tough, physical, athletic. He provided that nastiness you need up front. But Kiki gave him way too much money and with his injuries, he wasn’t worth what they gave him.

Things he will provide

Positives- Kenyon Martin is a very reliable on the man defensive player. He has good foot work and only switches off if that is how the coach wants them to do. Kenyon Martin sets his feet very well and he makes it hard for players on the offense to post him up. His weak side defense leaves much to be desired but that is more of the fault of his blown out knees more than anything, but he is undersized for a power forward. He is exceptional at getting tip-ins but if the offensive strategy is to run down the court immediately after a missed shot instead of going for the offensive rebound, he is less effective at getting points. His emotion is a doubled edged sword. On one end, his bully like tendencies will get into the opposing players head, and make them feel timid to drive in on him for fear of Kenyon stealing their lunch money after the game.

He is not as explosive as a dunker anymore, which is how he got most of his points in his earlier Net days. He still can finish at the rim with the dribble and pass if he is on the baseline and the opposing 4 or 5 switches off on him. He has great upper body strength, allowing him to draw a good amount of fouls, he is a little below mediocre for a free throw shooter, shooting around 60% for his career. He can hit a jump shot sometimes, but is very, very streaky with it. He can nail the corner 3 if he is left wide open. Not a reliable jump shot, no arch on it at all. At this point in his career he is at the level of Taj Gibson. A solid front man who can give you 6 points and 4-5 rebounds in 20 minutes a game and provide solid interior defense. Is a decent passer when posting up.

Negatives- Undersized, does not box out that often leads to plenty of offensive rebounds for his opposing defensive assignment. His doubled edged sword being his emotion can become costly, turning into free technical foul free throw shots, which can end up costing the game. Can become a locker room menace if he isn’t surrounded by guys he likes to be around. Can vanish at times at has a tendency to think of himself as a better player than he actually is. Not a very good rebounder. Not nearly as athletic as he used to be, and he does have a history of injury problems. Can have problems against bigger power forwards with a decent jump or hook shot.

Not very fundamentally sound, and his jump shot leaves much to be desired. Can become a offensive liability at times. Since his arch is so low, his missed shots tend to hit the front of the rim, which means that most of his shots will not end up in offensive rebounds since shots that hit the front of the rim will go to the players boxing out more as if he were to shoot at hit the back of the rim, enabling for more offensive rebounds since the ball travels further away from the rim.

Overall: Expect a Taj Gibson leveled talent. A great backup at this point in his career, can provide good defense and his athletic ability along with the fact that he plays bigger than his size unlike say, Brian Cook will give the Clippers a much needed patch in the backup front court that they were sorely missing.

Nice take, Cloudy

And I love me some Taj Gibson, who’s the type of bench player any team should be thrilled to have. Haven’t been able to follow the Bulls very closely this season, but when I do see them it appears that Gibson isn’t contributing as solidly as I’d expected of him. Wonder why not?

Thanks for the link, Nate

Love to read these contributions to other blogs. Strangely, your writing in this Clips Nation exchange seems to be even better than your customary good stuff for DS.

Probably the best comment about Kenyon comes from Koz of Altitude Sports
…Kenyon is wide open but nobody is sending him the ball. There’s a reason why you are wide open Kenyon. I wanted to say that for seven years when you were a Nugget.
