Timofey Mozgov's hard foul on the Clippers' high-flying Blake Griffin in the third quarter pretty much summed up the Nuggets emphatic victory over the Clips.

When Blake Griffin smacked hard onto the Staples Center hardwood early in what would become a dominant third quarter by our Nuggets, I knew last night's game was over. Whether it was the Clippers, playing their fourth game in five nights against tough opponents, had simply run out of gas or whether it was the Nuggets, playing like crap for two straight games against tough opponents, had simply had enough of the poor play and the naysaying from Nuggets Nation, we won't know for sure.
But regardless, with their 112-91 victory the Nuggets saved face after a bad week thus far and inched a little bit ahead of the Clippers in the overall Western Conference standings.
Unfortunately, because the Clippers were clearly exhausted we can't read much into this game other than the obvious observation: the Nuggets' depth was too much for the Clippers to handle, especially when fatigue kicked in. And don't let the box score fool you that shows the Clippers' bench scoring 33 points to the Nuggets' bench's 39 ... most of that production from the Clips came during meaningless garbage time.
When not playing a fourth game in five nights, the Clippers remain a team to be reckoned with. But this lockout-shortened season will serve up many four-in-fives, and seeing the debacle last night means the Clippers might slip a bit in the standings if they can't weather the scheduling. Conversely, the Nuggets - purposefully or not - were built for this lockout schedule. And while the Nuggets aren't above getting tired themselves, they can handle the schedule better than most - if not all - of their Western Conference counterparts.
Last night's outcome should have restored (some) faith that the Nuggets will do just fine in the regular season. Post-season success, however, will be a different matter altogether and I maintain my prediction that the Nuggets and Clippers will see each other at some point during the playoffs. And there's no doubt that Griffin will remember Mozgov putting him on his ass in that third quarter.
(On a side note, we apologize for the technical problems SBNation was having last night throughout the game and after the game. We believe the issues have been fixed.)
Non-Stiff(s) of the Game
Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson: Remember when we collectively remarked about how much not having Lawson hurt the Nuggets when they lost to the Clippers on Sunday? Lawson killed the Clips last night with his frenetic pace and combining that with Gallo making 70% of his shots proved to be too much for the Clippers to handle.
Stiff of the Game
Chauncey Billups: The effects of four games in five nights were most evident with Billups, who looked exhausted from the get-go and managed to connect on just two of his nine field goal attempts. And defensively, Billups couldn't handle Lawson, Andre Miller or Arron Afflalo (who finally had a decent game!). The Clippers would have been better off sitting Billups and giving Mo Williams his minutes.
Parting Shot
Don't read too much into last night's game. The Nuggets were the beneficiaries of a scheduling oddity that the Clippers couldn't overcome. The real test comes tonight when the Nuggets are on a back-to-back and their opponent - the Lakers - are the rested squad.

Snow day first!

Nice game
The much maligned AAA played well last night. Good D on CP3 and looked much better on O.
Nice to see the bigs get time and play well. Good work Moz!
Pusherman - February 3, 2012
It was...
AAA kinda pushed himself into the flow instead of standing and watching – good to see.

Moz was super impressive
I hope Karl was paying attention…

Chris Rock
Clearly has some messed up, patriarchal views on parenting.
A woman can end up being a stipper without reflecting poorly on her character or that of her father.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
You know some stand up citizen strippers?
Have they been saving the world?
JR15 - February 3, 2012 via mobile
Do you know any accountants
Saving the world? Or lawyers? Or industrialists?
I’ll be the first to admit that there is a lot of tragedy and exploitation in stripping, which makes it no different than most fields where the management class has all the power.
I just think it is a poor reflection on our society that so many people think a woman who is a stripper is somehow an inferior individual. It is wrong to think that way.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
To me, the biggest issue is there is no long term there
There is a limited shelf life for that type of employment, so you have to be preparing yourself for some other type of job skill, which most of them probably don’t do. Even you do, then you are starting over at the bottom with probably less pay than you are used to. Unless it’s a young girl who is literally doing it to pay her way through college, seems like a counterproductive career choice.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
All of this is true
I don’t claim the occupation is without its tragic elements. Just saying women who strip or do any other work in erotica aren’t subhuman.
That said, I don’t think any gal goes in thinking she is going to do it her whole life. She knows it is just a way to have fun, meet people and make shitloads of money.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
Lighten up Francis!
It’s called a joke!
KenInCO - February 3, 2012
I'm not humorless
I just take exception to the idea that we need to find laughs by denigrating other groups of people.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
Fly
um, do you have a daughter?
sgiustra - February 3, 2012
Why?
Would it make it OK to mock strippers? Aren’t they someone’s daughter? How is it OK?
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
They are someone's daughter.
And I didn’t take what he said as being offensive to strippers, but more to the fathers of strippers.
Being a father of 3, I think that it is a failure on the part of any girls father who lets their daughter strip.
Thnikkaman - February 3, 2012
A ton of fathers
Can’t offer their daughters the thousands of dollars a month that stripping offers. That doesn’t make them inferior people. Do you think only the very wealthy should be allowed to reproduce?
I get some guys get squeamish about their daughter being involved in anything sexual or erotic unless it is sanctioned by marriage. And it is these old-fashioned, patriarchal attitudes that I find so offensive as a feminist.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
There is your flaw.
It’s up to fathers to teach their daughters how to be empowered females. They need to teach their daughters that taking the easy way out (stripping) is going to be lucrative, but is likely to also put themselves in serious danger.
Yes, I get a little squeamish when thinking about any of my children growing up and becoming sexually active. I also don’t want them to be prudes. I want my daughter to find herself in a relationship where she is strong and treated as an equal. If she gets to the point where she feels the only way she can live the life she wants in this world is by stripping, then I have failed her as a father.
Its not an old-fashioned patriarchal attitude, it’s my love for my daughter, my desire that she gets every opportunity that I feel that she deserves, and that she has more self worth than my parents were ever able to get me. If that makes you feel uncomfortable as a feminist, than feminism is a joke.
Thnikkaman - February 3, 2012
I was being facetious about saving the world
But I would want a daughter to be educated vs getting paid to dance/ entertain men.
Even if they get less money as an educated individual, it is way better than denigrating yourself for money.
Personal opinion of course, but money is not everything and that is the problem with society. It gives people the chance to avoid learning about the world and make money off superficial looks.
JR15 - February 3, 2012
I agree
Exotic Dancers are working professionals that work in the entertainment service industry. How are they different from the talking heads on cable news stations? If anything I would rather my daughter be a stripper than work for CNNMSNBCFOX or a political candidate.
georgekarl - February 3, 2012
Strippers arent being mocked Fly
Its just a choice that is close to the bottom of good choices.
Sometimes, when you want to understand your opinion on something, its a good exercise to ask, "what if your (fill in the blank) was (fill in the blank)
Being a stripper isnt, IMO, wrong, immoral, sinful, whatever, per se, its just not very high on the gotta do list
Absolutely no offense intended to anyone engaged or anyone who knows anyone else stripping and I know for a fact that there are strippers who’ve done very well

quote from yahoo article on mozgov foul on griffin
It rattled me a little bit," said Griffin, who missed both free throws. "It was a good foul, a hard foul."
Gallinari said, "`We know that once Blake takes off, it’s almost impossible to block his shot. So you’ve got to find him before he takes off. Timo was able to be on the weak side at the right time. It was a tough foul, but sometimes you’ve got to do it."
Credit former Clipper Andre Miller with the suggestion.
"He had a lot of dunks on us in the first half, and Andre Miller said, `The next time he tries to dunk the ball, let’s try to put him on his behind,"’ Al Harrington said. "He almost still made it, but it was a hard foul and he missed. It was a definitely a statement for us, defensively, and it set a precedent for how we were going to play the rest of the game. Teams try to bully us because we play so fast, so it was good to be on the other end of it for once."
utahcoyote - February 3, 2012
Oh ya...
Since we lost KMart, we’ve needed someone to step up and take control of the paint when things get frantic – nice!
mtnmagic22 - February 3, 2012
Excuses for the Clippers aside..
One thing last night did prove was how valuable Ty is. The Clips had no answer for him and his speed. And an 8-4 road record is solid. Just 8 road wins for a .500 road record.
Time to get the home court house in order Nuggets! Start a dominating home win streak tonight.
BEAT LA take 2!

I would like to feel hopeful...
But just like the last 2 games, it seems like sometimes the crazy switch goes off in his brain… Let’s hope…
mtnmagic22 - February 3, 2012
He did in the fourth quarter
fortunately we were up by 22. He had Lawson, Miller, AAA, Rudy and Al out there for about 2 or 3 minutes.
gonugs - February 3, 2012
faried
looked like people were trying to get faried into the game too hard.
spokenwar - February 3, 2012
Faried is undercooked
Give him blowout minutes and a offseason, he isn’t ready this season
CombatChuk - February 3, 2012
Don't forget he is one of the few four year college players
He might appear more ready if given a few real minutes, rather than junk time featuring forced lobs.
Ski Bum - February 3, 2012
undercooked is the perfect description...
needs time…
mtnmagic22 - February 3, 2012
Yep
watching him live last night, he seems to be lost or a bit scattered quite a bit in the offensive sets. Lawson, Miller and Karl were all taking time to point things out to him.
Right now, the guy is Manimal in the paint and Balkman outside of it. Just needs to keep working on the mental side until he stops having to think so much.
Teekalong - February 3, 2012
A lot of people want him to get minutes (understandably so because of his energy)
I think a lot of us overlook Mozgov not given a lot of duties when he first arrived here, now he is starting and his minutes are slowly increasing. I see the same situation for Faried (minutes increasing next year). Although it would be nice to see what he could do when our lead wasn’t so high (meaning playing against non-scrubs)
Mancar - February 3, 2012
Noticed
that too, they try to force it when he comes in
NewEraNugg - February 3, 2012
yesterday was a perfect basketball day
1. Nuggets get revenge
1a. GK plays size
2. Utah loses
3. Portland loses
4. NY loses
Mancar - February 3, 2012
well put Mancar
can I add
1.b Mozgov continues to exact revenge for that over rated dunk. Takes the Clippers as a personal challenge. Good for you Mozzy
1.c Its Alive! Eat Ease A LIve! AAA is stirring.
4.B Reason why Knicks could make a crunch shot is because they had only their “stars” shooting them. How’s that for reverse conventionalism? Did you hear that from ESPN? No because they have their own religion.
sgiustra - February 3, 2012

Winning tonight at home vs. LAL
Is going to be key. Can they muster what that’s going to require after last night and I’m assuming some possible flight difficulties? If so, we could potentially come out of it 3 for 3. I’m just flat out not impressed w/ Portland and with Batum out (I think) we could steal one on their court.
stiffy - February 3, 2012
We need Mozzy Mozbourne
to play the exact same way he did last night. Tough and physical on defense, and getting to the front of the rim for good looks on offense. I was really impressed with his entire game last night. He did everything you’d want him to do. I don’t think he’s ever going to develop a true offensive game, but it may not be necessary if he can be as effective as last night on a more consistent basis. Fouls tonight will be the issue though, as Jordan is no Bynum.
We’ll definitely need more from Nene than we got last night. Wasn’t thrilled with his time on the floor. And I’m a big fan.

The Nugs seem to converting the masses.
We know how fickle fans can be, but reading the post article comments shows how much people really enjoy team basketball. Heading to the game tonight. I hope there is a good turnout despite the snow and everybody is fired up. Karl-build off this momentum.
JackTorrance - February 3, 2012 via mobile
I'm a casual NBA fan, but have always followed the Nuggets
That being said, I love this team. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve been excited to watch an NBA game.
Thnikkaman - February 3, 2012
How did I miss Julyan Stone getting dropped from the roster?
Anybody have the scoop on this? Forced them to play Miller during recycling time last night instead of getting some rest.
Mozgov was a force last night, doing much more than his 11 points and 7 rebounds show. Karl was coaching pretty well, called a timeout in the second quarter even before I was yelling at the TV for one, and played Kouf before garbage time. Very surprising that Bird was a DNP-CD with all the garbage time. He must really be in the J.R. house.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
He was coaching
well last night. The way they changed their D on CP was great. AAA and Ty were all over him, direct result of coaching changes from last game (and a healthy Ty)
NewEraNugg - February 3, 2012
hopefully Kouf is starting to permanently take over the spot in the rotation
these games where GK plays bird and Kouf 8 minutes a piece are stupid, and not really fair to either player, as you can’t expect either to have any impact in that situation.
Rainbow skyline - February 3, 2012
If Bird didn't get in last night
when they had 7 minutes or so of complete garbage time, I don’t see much playing time in his future.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
Stone hasn't been cut, just inactive.
The U.N. Fab Five - February 3, 2012
Thank you
That makes sense. Was fun to see Faried and Hamilton get some minutes.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
Ooh thank god,I think we mayhave something w/this stone kid
tknuckle - February 3, 2012 via mobile
Yep
and Miller was inserted to provide some semblance of structure during garbage time, basically was playing “coach on the floor” because nobody on the floor had any idea how to run the offense.
Bird was dressed, but must have been inactive, no? I saw that 12 others played.
Teekalong - February 3, 2012
was Corey "Chicken Legz" Brewer
inactive?
NugNugz - February 3, 2012
He's away from the team for personal reasons.
Don’t think it’s been announced what they are exactly. Karl said he thinks Brewer might miss the rest of the week.
Russscot - February 3, 2012
bless you. Thanks.
NugNugz - February 3, 2012
Hope everything is fine
Hope no one passed away that was close to him. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders as a person.
CloudBurst - February 3, 2012
miller on the court with the rookies was probably a good thing
he basically sat back and let them try to run stuff. oddly enough, miller’s only turnover came on a deep lob attempt to faried that was mistimed a bit
utahcoyote - February 3, 2012
never scare me like that again
you freaked me out when you said Stone was dropped.
NugNugz - February 3, 2012
Sorry
looked at the box score and he wasn’t listed. Thought maybe they sent him to the dleague or something.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
"Karl was coaching pretty well"
I just did a quadruple check on that one!
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
You wanted me to bash him?
Honestly he tends to coach pretty well during the season on games he considers big games. He’s more active, is better with rotations, and calls timeouts sooner. It’s frustrating that he takes so many nights off. He would bench a player who was as inconsistent as he is. And we still had the shot of him sitting on his butt with his head in his hands last night.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
cp3 a bitch
GET IN HIS HEAD AAA!!!!!
808inDenver - February 3, 2012

Last night reminded me a bit of the playoff series against Dallas a few years ago. Nothing dirty, but good hard fouls and play. Definitely affected the Flopper and Griffin.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012

I didn’t know CP3 was such a … whatever the hell he is…. putting it out there a little, but that same “whatever” is why I don’t like Dwight Howard – both have that “whatever” :)

5baker5 - February 3, 2012
thank god GK played 2K over Bird
2K still a black hole, but much better defensively IMO. and doesnt get pushed around as easily as bird.
and give MOZ MORE MINUTES!
808inDenver - February 3, 2012
As mentioned at RMC - Corey Brewer has left the team for emergency family reasons
I hope he and his family are doing well, whatever is going on with them. Best wishes to Corey and I hope he comes back soon
Colin Neilson - February 3, 2012
Ahhhhhhh.... that felt good....
GK finally put a little variety into the lineup and those were sweet results! I don’t like to say this, but it was the small lineup that pushed us back up from down 10 to catching them, BUT, as someone pointed out – then he went back to big and all that was left was in the rear view mirror. AAA – I’ve been down on him and he looked like he came around – took the ball to the hole really well – he persisted instead of kicking it back out when he was stopped – me thinks that he is going to have to adjust his game to the new personnel and be a bit more "me" oriented – he’s not going to get all those open jumpers he got last year. Moz was the man – just a nice solid game with monster presence in the lane. I have blasted Rudy’s flat feet in the past, but with help on D, he was REALLY pesky last night – he really pissed off CP3 along with Ty and AAA. I have always been an Andre fan and always will, no matter what – the guy is just… "Andre-like" – consummate pro – he has picked us up so many times this season when we could have folded. Ty – looked like he was getting his game-pace back tonight. I HATE the small ball, but will say that when Andre and Ty are in there, it isn’t like having 2 PG’s – they are both "true" offensive threats and it is a true combo of 1-2 guards. It’s when the 3rd guard gets tossed in that I start chewing my nails. Defense stunk in the first quarter/half – could have been just getting lose in an away game – but it wasn’t playoff level defense. Watched the Thunder the other night – scary good… And I stick by my GK statements – the guy still gets outcoached too much and the word stubborn until in the flames still stands… for now. That was awesome to watch!!
mtnmagic22 - February 3, 2012
Andre Miller was once again a solid player last night
Dude is NOT a problem for this team whatsoever… Quite contrarily, he’s a MAJOR asset. Nate’s article the other day raised some good points on rotations, but Miller himself, just goes out and beasts as hard as possible. Can’t fault him for goin’ in and doin’ his thing whenever called upon.
stiffy - February 3, 2012
And I still say don't give up on Bird...
He has just been valuable so often for us – there is a reason why he is still here – he has had many good games, has changed the pace and tone and contributes. Maybe his role is diminished, but the guy is big, hustles, rebounds, blocks shots, plays good D – things this team needs. I hope this is not another “GK in the head” thing….
mtnmagic22 - February 3, 2012
Bird has done 0 of those things you listed this year
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Feel kind of bad for Birdman.
How old is he now? I have seen glimpses of his former self, but not much. After his substance abuse issues, I was and am still, pulling for the guy, but in a word he just seems “slow”-reaction time, coordination, etc. He needs to get hungry again.
JackTorrance - February 3, 2012 via mobile

Probably losing some of his physical tools.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
I don't understand what the big deal is
He was never a great player. He had spurts of ok ness and the one season where he was desperate to have a contract he actually hustled. After that he just stinks.
AAA can have a stretch of bad games and people want to dump him already but Andersen has mostly stunk it up his entire career and people just feel sorry for him. There is no justice.

The U.N. Fab Five - February 3, 2012
I think GK is done tinkering with his lineups
I’ve seen him play with every possible combination already, I think he knows what combinations work and what doesnt, and it seems benching gallo had a positive effect. I think from here on out there’s going to be a more solid and consistent rotation as players get healthy and get into their groove. If only the players could be more consistent- thats a big IF… if Mozgov can give consistently give denver 11 & 7 plus 2 blocks a game, then GK wont be tempted to play small. we’ll get a clearer picture of what the nuggets are made of at the tail end of this back to back to back.
Japheth:the.other.kind.of.asian. - February 3, 2012
I think his blocks will go up
as he gets more experience. The great thing is he can block with either hand, so he can attempt to block from the correct side and be less likely to draw fouls.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
Gallo
Seems to be quite handy with the left too. A damn good skill to have.

No conversation on ambidextrous Nuggets is complete without a mention of Nene.
That’s Denver’s entire starting frontcourt.

Damnit.

JackTorrance - February 3, 2012 via mobile
Good point
about blocking with either hand. You know your basketball. Moz is learning. Of course he looks better against a dead-tired team, but he won’t learn on the bench. Glad to see GK forced to play the bunch. Can you say, “Watch the replay today?”
Plea for Intelligence - February 3, 2012
NEVER DONE TINKERING
You can’t possibly be done tinkering with lineups, because we haven’t played against every variable possible yet so far this season. And even once you’ve played every team in the league it doesn’t mean you don’t go back and tinker with it the next time around, if for nothing else, to throw off the other teams strategy against you.
If sales guys acronym is ABC (Always Be Closing), a coaches should be ABT (Always Be Tinkering)…. to an extent.

About when the Nuggets got back to Denver last night? I’m very curious about how well they are resting and how the storm impacted their travel routine.

bc Hastings tweeted something like, rush hours is gonna be bad in 3.5 hours

Thoughts about the game
Great win for the Nuggets last night. I don’t care if the Clippers were exhausted, we went in their and took care of business. I have to admit I was a little worried after the first quarter, but the bench came in and got us back into the game.
A special shout out to AAA. I’ve been really hard on the guy, but last night he finally stepped up. I loved how he was pressuring Paul up the court. I also liked the rough fouls he put on Paul.
Mozgov: See what happens Karl when Moz gets some run. He really impressed me last night. I especially loved the hard foul he put on Griffin. He wasn’t going to be in another poster.
TheMozgovCocktail - February 3, 2012
i am eating crow
today, i predicted the nuggs getting routed 111 to 91 a couple of days ago. almost had the score right but not the team. I also have to give king george credit, he left moz in made smart rotations (there i said it), and even gave ham n faried some much needed time. Enjoyed the game thoroughly and hope they knock off the lakers tonight. oh yead aaa;s defense on paul was some of the best i have seen from him all year.
not_karl - February 3, 2012
Gallo
I was also impressed with him. He redeemed himself last night.
TheMozgovCocktail - February 3, 2012
Don't read too much into this win
Actually, this win tells me a great deal. In this compacted season, it is expected that teams should be able to perform 4 games in 5 nights. OKC has won under those conditions, the Nuggets won under those conditions, so why couldn’t Lob City? The teams that will go furthest this season are the ones that will figure out a way to win games like this, so yes, I will read a good bit into this game.
KevinAwesome - February 3, 2012
100% agree
The Clippers came out and were hammering us and we fought back and ended up with a 21 point win. I will read a lot into this win.
TheMozgovCocktail - February 3, 2012
Heres what I read...
The clippers are a good, not great team. Mediocre point differential. 75% of games played in LA. Their record is a paper tiger given that point spread. The nuggets are a top 5 nba team. The clips are a top 15 team. It showed last night
oxsnard - February 3, 2012 via Android app
Strength of Schedule.
The Nuggets are not a top five NBA team. Maybe top eight or ten. The Clippers are not either, but they will be in a month.
The Clippers have played the hardest SOS so far this year @ .581, while the Nuggets have played the ninth hardest schedule @ .539.
I agree that the Clipper’s schedule has been weighted heavily with home games, but their home games have not been easy. They have wins over Miami, OK City, Memphis, Los Angeles and Portland,. They lost to the Bulls, Nuggets and the T-Wolves on a last second 3 from Love.

ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
That may be the largest IF in NBA history
The clippers were stupid to sign him but I’m glad they did. It just improves our chances at a serious run.
georgekarl - February 3, 2012
Clipper fan checking in.
I was pulling for the Nuggets last night to beat the Lakers, but apparently, much like the Clippers the night before, they could not figure out how to win a game when they are tired. Gallinaro looked slower than I can ever remember and his threes were bricks. Tired legs are a problem no matter who you play for.
Last night, the Clippers started fast in the first quarter, like they usually do, but looked incredibally slow after that. Part of it was Denver’s team speed, but part of it was fatigue.
I think Denver and the Clippers will have a nice little rivalry going forward. Both teams are young, talented and staking their claim in the West for years to come.

I did. I don't think I can post it but I can attempt to summarize.
1) he does a bit of history of the trade and of the Melo and Karl relationship (nothing new here)
2).he says we have primarily succeeded by playing on the defensive end
3) he emphasizes that we play team ball with no true all stars (although he spends time making a case for nene, Ty, Al and Galo
4) emphasizes that the Celtics when they won the championship were terrible in crunch time
5) says we appear to be like the championship team of the pistons or celtics but without any stars
6) never a
Says if we should trade to improve the team or play as is. Leaves the question unanswered.

SDcat09 - February 3, 2012
It is a smart move for him
because he is a major upgrade over Reggie Evans. It is a team friendly deal, but relying on Kmart is a game of Russian Roulette with 4 rounds in the cylinder.

The better. Just get Billups back on the good guy team before the ship goes down.
Thnikkaman - February 3, 2012
Won't make too much of a difference
I also wonder how Kmart will feel coming off the bench.
Remember KMart a arranged pedestrian #s in China, while Wilson and JR are lighting it up.
It could be a attitude thing or it could be an injury thing.
Either way, it’s not the same KMart we were used to. And he won’t get too many minutes when his carbon copy, Blake Griffin, plays ahead of him.
KMart may get some points of CP3 lobs, but I don’t know how effective he will be.
JR15 - February 3, 2012 via mobile
He is still a great upgrade for him
their bench post depth is brutally bad, when Reggie Evans is clearly the best guy. He’ll get 15 per game behind Blake and probably another 10 or so alongside him. Gives them lots more lineup flexibility and raises the talent level. He is definitely a strong play for them and the Clips are improved.
Teekalong - February 3, 2012
That's true
But does the volatile KMart realize he is coming off the bench? He is a great defender though, I will give him that. But he would be better suited for defense in crunch time situations than Griffin, but Griffin will get minutes over him and KMart won’t be a happy camper about that.
JR15 - February 3, 2012 via mobile
good move
I’m not worried however.
TheMozgovCocktail - February 3, 2012
Timo's hard fouls will stop the refs from calling the soft fouls...
….or so I believe and hope. It seems that if Timo can get a sort of Kenyon Martin rep for harder fouls, the refs will be that much more likely to stop calling him for the ticky-tac fouls that currently plague him.
I want the whole team to earn their fouls….none of this “and 1” stuff. Go Kenyon Martin, if your going to foul, then make sure it is a solid foul.
bonaire - February 3, 2012
Wilson Chandler has said that he is optimistic that the Nuggets will offer him a long-term deal when he returns from China.
Chandler is a restricted free agent and there have been rumors that Toronto is very interested, but the Nuggets can match any offers. It seems that Denver is where Chandler wants to end up, but large sums of money can change minds in a hurry. Chandler can’t return until mid-February, as he is stuck in China until his team is eliminated from the playoffs, so there are a few weeks until anything happens here.
the real stranger - February 3, 2012
Where do we have a position for him? Neither Gallo nor Wil is a 4...
..and neither Gallo nor Wil should be playing backup for the other either
Chrysicat - February 3, 2012
chandler will be backing up the 2-3-4
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
exactly, and I bet there will be reasons to start Will
Will is most likely Gallo’s sub and, Nene’s but whats most intriguing is Will at Shooting Guard. He is like AAA but taller and on steroids.
sgiustra - February 3, 2012
I'm not high on Chandler
but if his presence gets Karl to stop playing 3 guard lineups, I’m all for it.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
karl wont
he could just plug Will at PF
sgiustra - February 3, 2012
He could
but if he does that, then he has to play Harrington at 3. He’s not going to take minutes away from Harrington or Nene, and he couldn’t play Moz less. That only leaves minutes at the backup 3.
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 3, 2012
you know, I love what Al has done for us
a borderline all star coming off the bench.
But Will gives us a player who has more versatility with respect to position and a better all around game
Just his defense alone makes him a potent addition. Last year, for much of the early season, he led NBA in blocks, that is all players, not just forwards.
sgiustra - February 3, 2012
Good bye Rudy?
Wilson and Brewer coming off the bench is pretty fucking potent
CombatChuk - February 3, 2012
i like rudy hes solid, brewer sucks
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
No
His game has issues. But he doesn’t suck.
He’s Denver’s second-best perimeter defender.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
Brewer is already under extended contract
Rudy is a rental
CombatChuk - February 3, 2012
Either way Hamilton needs to develope.. brewer would be in his way
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
I think
Summer leagues and a legit preseason are the best ways to get young players up to speed for the pro game. Throwing them into a truncated regular season where your team has the chance to go deep in the playoffs isn’t the way.
It sucks for Stone, Hamilton and Faried, but I’m OK with waiting until next year to unwrap these presents.
Fly Agaric - February 3, 2012
Thats what i meant
They won’t get any meaningful minutes this year, but they will all be in the 2nd unit next year
5baker5 - February 3, 2012
Big Hamilton fan
Do you think we should have just kept him on the D League so he can get some real minutes?
Also, I know a lot of people before the season were saying he would be the backup 3, but I think he moves and is built more like a 2 guard.
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
He's a decent defender and his hot streaks are always nice to see
Steal…run the court…layup. I like his speed.
georgekarl - February 3, 2012
And trade the Birdman for Dahntay Jones
the real stranger - February 3, 2012
Nooooooooooooo
Rudy is awesome!
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
I know it's not gonna happen
but I like Chandler much better as a starter, than coming off the bench. Take last year, when he came off the bench his mentality was get as many shots in as possible (similar to the role Karl carved out, and criticized, JR for). If Will’s a starter, he will be far more prone to play with the system. I know Chandler’s a good defender, but haven’t seen him go up against enough 2 guards to make a conclusive assessment. But AAA would be an ideal bench player because he is well aware of his role on the team.
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
Doesn't matter who starts
Accodring to Karl, it’s who finishes the game that is important
JR15 - February 3, 2012
While that may be true
it is definitely important to the players and their personal views of their own respective roles. It definitely alters their approach to game.
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
"Wilson Chandler has said that he is optimistic that the Nuggets will offer him a long-term deal "
that should answer questions about his will(no pun intended..well…) to be here, that’s not the Nugs hoping for the deal, that’s Chandler. It straight up says he wants to be here for awhile and he knows his role in this team by now. The Raptors are only allowed to have former Nuggets who stunk
Phil H. - February 3, 2012
It is surprising
that he’s so outright about wanting to return with the Nuggets when he has to know he’s not going to start. It does not reflect the attitude he showed in the playoffs, but with his talent and upside as a very young player, I’d love for him to grow on the Nuggets and maybe learn how to voer some 2 guards????
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
voer = cover ...not sure what happened there
RoxWS2014 - February 3, 2012
I'm not sure how it became such conventional wisdom around here that Chandler had no desire to be here
when he never said anything to that effect.
Rainbow skyline - February 3, 2012
I was wondering the same thing.
I think he was reluctant at first, but he seems like a very mellow and respectful guy that may actually care more about winning with an ego-less team than trying to be a star.
love4nuggets - February 3, 2012
agreed, and look, I love Will
He was in shock after the trade but a mutual commitment on both parties would be a sign that each is happy with the other, like in a good marriage
Will is also mellow, painfully shy. But energy he saves from not talking much comes out like great bursts when he’s on the court. Just google a few of his dunks, defensive ferocity, blocks whereon he recoils like a tiger who pounces up.

All I have to say is this. Imagine an occasional line up of
Moz at 7 one & athletic, Nene big, strong and athletic, Small forward who is 6’10 and, yes athletic, 6 eight SG who is strong as a bull, fast as Flash and could jump over rim, paired up with a smallish, strongish, blazingly fast point guard.
For some teams, we would be a nightmare.
We will control the air and the floor. What else is there?

You may have me convinced
I’ve thought all along that Chandler would be used in a trade. But that is one spectacular starting line-up. Is he capable of guarding the fastest perimeter players?
Maybe I’ve been wrong about what the Nuggets need. Maybe all we need is training camp with our full roster and a full-season schedule, along with some champagne getting cold in the ’frig.
