Dallas leads 64-53 at the half, the Nuggets showed a couple signs of life that they are still in fourth place out West and in the playoff hunt ... where is the energy this Denver team had just a little over a week ago?
seems like teams are playing hard/crowded defense in the paint, and daring Denver to take jumpshots and threes. If only this team could hit some quality jumpshots and three pointers
Until we re-discover our defensive presence, this is what we're gonna see.
I’m not sure if it’s the injuries, the schedule, or what, but we’ve completely fallen apart on defense. We don’t rotate, don’t fight over screens – or hedge out strong. We look lazy and lost.
The team as a whole has lost confidence in their ability to hit open jump shots.
You could see it in that sequence which ended with K2’s “offensive foul.” Ty then AAA, then Ty, then Nene all passed up open shots before Nene fumbled it to Kw on the layup. They really need to make some to get their confidence back
I really hope that our record before the injuries wasn't a fluke.
Chandler is good, and he’ll help, but if we’re really just not that good of a team he isn’t going to save us. We have a lot to lose in the next month before Gallo gets back.
I think that the NBA should either hire more refs,
or just simply fire all they have right now and bring up high school dads who ref their kids games on the weekends. Can’t be worse than the debacle that reffing has been this year.
2 things. 1) it is bad when you are rooting for it to be within the last two minutes of a half
so that the ref’s can get a call correct, and 2) when is g.k. going to realize that meticulous coaches like carlisle game plan more for his idiotic tendencies than for those of our players?
i’m referring to carlisle being meticulous and not missing something so obvious as his trend to go small and making an utter mockery of it in the pick and roll.
And I'm saying that for all his meticulous planning,
in the past, he has not shown the ability to exploit the weaknesses of Karl’s coaching. Yes, I have watched the last 7-8 games, and yes, I too have seen that we cannot defend the PnR, shoot jump shots, or rotate to the open man. The Mav’s offense tonight was not designed specifically to take advantage of the Nuggets weakness, it’s the same offense they’ve run for years, which Karl has shown a propensity for beating.
in years pased karl did not utilize the 5 pg lineup the way he is this year!
forget about what happened when melo was on the team, or when we had 15 players at our disposal to open the year. like it or not he has 11 now, sorts out the shortest 5 and goes with them at any opportunity he gets.
Honestly, I would like our PnR defense to be better,
but to the Mavs credit, in the fourth, when Denver hedged and recovered well, Dallas would patiently reset and run the PnR again…and again, until either the guard came free, or they got the switch on Dirk. Also, for all the talk of the Mavs being a soft team (I know this somewhat disappeared last year), tonight every single player on their roster set harder, more solid screens than I’ve seen from any player on the Nuggets this year (or for many years, tbh).
I was saying that even when we did play good PnR D, the Mavs were patiently persistent, executed extremely well, and got what they wanted. Listen, I’m not a Karl apologist. I have plenty of issues with the things he does. However, I am willing to concede that he most likely knows a hell of a lot more about the game than I will ever know. And I also have no idea what he does in practices: how he handles them, if he teaches, etc.
And I know you are exaggerating. Listen, I’m not happy about the way things are going either. I am not sure what the answer is. What I do know is that clamoring for something that is not going to happen (i.e. a change at the coaching position) just makes this board more divisive than it should be, imo.
he has always played small ball. but he's always had a "star" on the court while doing so
there is a reason small ball “all of a sudden” is not working. he’s not going to get “star” whistles so what he does is handicap his players by forcing them to go up against players taller than them KNOWING that even if they get fouled it is not going to be called. if that won’t fuck up a jump shot i don’t know what well, and lets not even delve into the problems this causes on the boards.
guess what? the opposing coaches are on to this, of course g.k. is about to say how it is all the players fault.
shit k.k. is playing well. better take him out and put al in.
I thought that having a deep bench was supposed to be a motivating factor
George said “if you don’t hustle, there’s another guy who will take your minutes.”
Since he’s not following his own advice, can we have Melvin Hunt take George’s minutes?
1. Nene is a pussy. A very, very rich pussy.
2. Afflalo has regressed in every aspect except for his pocketbook.
3. George Karl has coached far too many games to look this terrible.
That was some pretty ugly basketball, and the last 5 games have looked a lot like this. Little energy, poor shooting, no movement on offense, lousy defense, and just overall flat play. Sure we miss Gallo and Mozzie, but Nene, AAA , Dre, and Ty are not doing much to pick up the slack. What happened to the hustling defense? What happened to the motion offense? What happened to all the great passing and team work? Hate to pile on, but they look lousy, even at home, and more and more seats are empty at Pepsi Center….
Of all the stats, 2nd chances, fast break points, free throws attempted and made, etc the only one that was of any significant difference was that dallas got 18 more shots from the floor than Denver. This is mainly due to a lack of a steady scorer.
It’s not like Dallas (last years champs) kicked our butts.
Those extra shot attempts are stupid turnovers because nobody is moving and people (Nene) watching rebounds as they fall into the other teams hands. Extra possessions are almost always hustle stats.
Another night where the opposing it scorching hot from outside and that is no accident. The Nuggets rotations are all screwed up, and too often they are too late running at a wide open shooter. It’s like target shooting for the opposing teams right now.
The Nuggs won a lot of games last year with great hustle and I just don’t see it right now.
they don’t play any defense, so maybe we could get some confidence back. I really think that the team’s confidence is at an all time low as far as shooting, and because they’re not shooting well, they appear to be a half step slow in every aspect of the game. I’m sure a lot has to do with injuries and fatigue, but we really cannot use that as an excuse.
It’s frustrating watching the team now. It’s not the losses, but the terrible perimeter defense, bad effort on the glass, and relatively stagnant and boring offense.
On the bright side, we’d have the 19th pick if the season ended today. Woo!
Scared they’re going to get hurt, scared they’re going to get tired and hurt, scared they’re going to get in foul trouble and not have enough guys to finish a game. Scared of playing period. No one will admit it though.
I am sure everyone is crushing the Nuggets. They deserve it right now. Just not playing with confidence. Look tired and frustrated. This rough patch is either going to make the team closer, stronger and better. Or they are going to implode and the season is lost.
Hope the bottom has been reached.. but you never know when you have Murphy’s Law rolling.
It is not a good sign when everyone starts passing up wide open shots. Whole team was too pass happy. Definitely a frustrating game, just never could get over the hump.
Put in the Manimal
its Denvers only chance….

Russscot - February 8, 2012
ummm, have you watched the last 7-8 games?
i’m referring to carlisle being meticulous and not missing something so obvious as his trend to go small and making an utter mockery of it in the pick and roll.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
and don't forget
Carlisle is a better kicker too!
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
that too!
anyone hear al’s interview praising carlisle and seemingly every other coach he’s played for BUT karl last week?
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
Yeah
there’s a reason for that
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
And I'm saying that for all his meticulous planning,
in the past, he has not shown the ability to exploit the weaknesses of Karl’s coaching. Yes, I have watched the last 7-8 games, and yes, I too have seen that we cannot defend the PnR, shoot jump shots, or rotate to the open man. The Mav’s offense tonight was not designed specifically to take advantage of the Nuggets weakness, it’s the same offense they’ve run for years, which Karl has shown a propensity for beating.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
in years pased karl did not utilize the 5 pg lineup the way he is this year!
forget about what happened when melo was on the team, or when we had 15 players at our disposal to open the year. like it or not he has 11 now, sorts out the shortest 5 and goes with them at any opportunity he gets.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
the mav's don't generally have the luxury of running a pick and roll that consistantly puts dirk on
a fucking 2 guard. that was game planning specifically for karls deficient size.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
Russscot - February 8, 2012
and the success of their p&r had NOTHING to do with the fact that they outsized us on the switches?
DESPITE having very good and sizeable players at karl’s disposal should he decide for the first time all year to not be stubborn?
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
and you don't think the fact that the nuggets always roll before setting a screen
is karls strategy? he has said as much in interviews.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
And I hate it :)
Russscot - February 8, 2012
If you read what I wrote,
I was saying that even when we did play good PnR D, the Mavs were patiently persistent, executed extremely well, and got what they wanted. Listen, I’m not a Karl apologist. I have plenty of issues with the things he does. However, I am willing to concede that he most likely knows a hell of a lot more about the game than I will ever know. And I also have no idea what he does in practices: how he handles them, if he teaches, etc.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
i did read what you wrote, thuis my counter that karl putting midgets on the court plays right into the mavericks plan
on the p&r.
i’m not going to pretend to know anything i don’t but i’m not going to spout off about something i don’t.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
The PnR was with Nene and Rudy
6’11" (kinda) and 6’5"…not exactly midgets
Russscot - February 8, 2012
Karl has always played small ball.
And I know you are exaggerating. Listen, I’m not happy about the way things are going either. I am not sure what the answer is. What I do know is that clamoring for something that is not going to happen (i.e. a change at the coaching position) just makes this board more divisive than it should be, imo.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
he has always played small ball. but he's always had a "star" on the court while doing so
there is a reason small ball “all of a sudden” is not working. he’s not going to get “star” whistles so what he does is handicap his players by forcing them to go up against players taller than them KNOWING that even if they get fouled it is not going to be called. if that won’t fuck up a jump shot i don’t know what well, and lets not even delve into the problems this causes on the boards.
guess what? the opposing coaches are on to this, of course g.k. is about to say how it is all the players fault.
shit k.k. is playing well. better take him out and put al in.
Patrick KB. Nugget - February 8, 2012
before it was kmart switchin to perimeter guy and meIo on dirk, not fernandez and nene.
Rys - February 8, 2012
Karl is an idiot
that is all
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Hey nuggets GO work on your fucking Shooting pls
cfact - February 8, 2012
Don't forget to listen to George Karl post game interview
950 AM.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
Hell no
I’m not listening to that moron
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
If you want to understand your enemy
You have to study him.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
Hahaha
love4nuggets - February 8, 2012
I've studied him plenty
plus he will just have some moronic excuse and throw someone under the bus
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
On the plus side, the Rockets are blowing out the Blazers at the Rose Garden
Russscot - February 8, 2012
That's a wow
Rockets must be pumped because Houston is going to host the all-star game.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
I'm watching The Association again....
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
When is the next one on?
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Next week I think
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
I know we all have issues with Karl's coaching,
some more than others, but when no one – and I do mean no one – on your team can consistently hit open jump shots, it’s handcuffing for a coach.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
Look on the bright side
their are teams that have it worse than us. the Hornets come to mind
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Yeah but George
needs to get these guys motivated. We have too many poor starts to games
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
I thought that having a deep bench was supposed to be a motivating factor
George said “if you don’t hustle, there’s another guy who will take your minutes.”
Since he’s not following his own advice, can we have Melvin Hunt take George’s minutes?
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
To be fair he gave Stone a chance to start
Stone played 7 minutes and did not attempt a shot.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
It might be a start but I don't consider it to be
when stone only plays 7 minutes
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
How long should he have played?
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
at least 15
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
I would have preferred to see those 15 at guard
and not at small forward. Why couldn’t Faried get some burn at Forward? Psssh, George….
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
I willnever understand the man
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
isnt that one of supposed to be one of his strong points, use his bench to get guys to pIay hard.
Rys - February 8, 2012
3 Observations.
1. Nene is a pussy. A very, very rich pussy.
2. Afflalo has regressed in every aspect except for his pocketbook.
3. George Karl has coached far too many games to look this terrible.
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
Well said NuggBuckets
I couldn’t agree with you more
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Our Team is Broke Right Now
That was some pretty ugly basketball, and the last 5 games have looked a lot like this.
ACEIII - February 8, 2012
I don't think there's a winnable game in February
Schedule and injuries have just doomed us. I just don’t know if I can watch this train wreck.
tknuckle - February 8, 2012 via mobile
Well no one is gonna make ya...
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
I will watch this train wreck until the bitter end
because I’m a die hard fan
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
me to
Danteslion - February 8, 2012
I know the feeling.
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
F---in Nuggs.
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
We May Soon Go to Top 3 in the Power Rankings to out of the Playoffs. . crazy....
ACEIII - February 8, 2012
Just think if we can make the playoffs
Starting
Mozgov
Nene
Gallo
AAA
Ty
Bench
K2
Harrington
Chandler
Rudy
Miller
that’s pretty damn good if we somehow stay alive for the playoffs
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
If we went to the playoffs right now we would play Dallas
I like those odds.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
Statistically it is not as bad as it seems.
Of all the stats, 2nd chances, fast break points, free throws attempted and made, etc the only one that was of any significant difference was that dallas got 18 more shots from the floor than Denver. This is mainly due to a lack of a steady scorer.
It’s not like Dallas (last years champs) kicked our butts.
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
The two big issues for me are
Giving up offensive rebounds and giving up wide open 3’s. If we can clean up those two things (and make some shots) we will be fine
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
No no no no.
Those extra shot attempts are stupid turnovers because nobody is moving and people (Nene) watching rebounds as they fall into the other teams hands. Extra possessions are almost always hustle stats.
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
Then we need to hustle
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
+1 billion?
NuggBuckets - February 8, 2012
Rockets outscored Porland in the 3rd quarter
30 – 18
georgekarl - February 8, 2012
Hand Down, Man Down
Another night where the opposing it scorching hot from outside and that is no accident. The Nuggets rotations are all screwed up, and too often they are too late running at a wide open shooter. It’s like target shooting for the opposing teams right now.
The Nuggs won a lot of games last year with great hustle and I just don’t see it right now.
ACEIII - February 8, 2012
Tomorrow night will be a challenge
The warriors have some snipers on the perimeter. It could get ugly if we don’t have good rotations
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
On the other hand,
they don’t play any defense, so maybe we could get some confidence back. I really think that the team’s confidence is at an all time low as far as shooting, and because they’re not shooting well, they appear to be a half step slow in every aspect of the game. I’m sure a lot has to do with injuries and fatigue, but we really cannot use that as an excuse.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
The warriors might not play D
but they still scare the hell out of me
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
agreed...Did you see Ellis just go off on the Thunder last night?
They still lost, but dayum!
Russscot - February 8, 2012
Ellis is a beast
48 points. they had a stretch in the 3rd quarter where they couldn’t miss
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Ugh
It’s frustrating watching the team now. It’s not the losses, but the terrible perimeter defense, bad effort on the glass, and relatively stagnant and boring offense.
On the bright side, we’d have the 19th pick if the season ended today. Woo!
nugzin2040 - February 8, 2012
The Poor Effort is Particularly Frustrating Since they were rested tonight. . .Is the team tuning Karl out??
ACEIII - February 8, 2012
We are pathetic at home right now .. . no effort, poor fan support, empty seats, UGLY
ACEIII - February 8, 2012
I believe
they are tuning him out.
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Nuggets are playing scared
Scared they’re going to get hurt, scared they’re going to get tired and hurt, scared they’re going to get in foul trouble and not have enough guys to finish a game. Scared of playing period. No one will admit it though.
Thursty - February 8, 2012
Where's that guy that predicted we would go 5-0 on our last long road trip? We need him to rally the team again :)
Buffalo Bills Forever! - February 8, 2012
It's a girl, and she's around
SDCat
Russscot - February 8, 2012
Cool!! Rally that team again for us!
Buffalo Bills Forever! - February 8, 2012
Well guys
I’m going to go play some NBA 2K12 in a couple minutes. At least the Nuggets win when I play that game
TheMozgovCocktail - February 8, 2012
Murphy's Law in Effect..
Grind on tomorrow.
djyoung71 - February 8, 2012
True
better to implode now than in the last month of the season.
EmersonCR - February 8, 2012
Say what you want about rudy fernandez, but he played with something the team didnt have
EMOTION
5baker5 - February 8, 2012
He did,
I would say that the rest of the team played with one emotion – frustration.
Russscot - February 8, 2012
I'm still convinced that we let shitty officiating
get in our heads, and then missing shots on top it sends us into meltdown mode.
That said.
I think we will win tomorrow.
SDcat09 - February 8, 2012
Ya officiating was terrible
Rudy just said in postgame interview "we down 8 but the faces are we down by 20, we just have to fight
5baker5 - February 8, 2012
Missed shots more than officials..
It is not a good sign when everyone starts passing up wide open shots. Whole team was too pass happy. Definitely a frustrating game, just never could get over the hump.
Any win is needed right now.
djyoung71 - February 8, 2012
the only guy who wasnt passing up shots was afflalo, he was 2/8 from 3 point land
awful
5baker5 - February 8, 2012
Corey Brewer needs to come back soon
With the death of his father a few days ago he can play off of high emotions which could be contagious
5baker5 - February 8, 2012
